As of October 2, 2026, neither the PlayStation nor Xbox store listing showed an install size, according to MapHeist’s storefront check. Treat specific numbers circulating online as unconfirmed until Rockstar or a platform store publishes the requirement.
When will the GTA 6 install size be available?
The final required free space is still unknown. Rockstar’s platform and edition information does not give a size, and the October 2, 2026 storefront check found no figure on either console store. Check the listing again when digital preloading begins; the platform’s requirement is more useful than an estimate because the final download and installation needs can differ from rumors.
Take-Two announced a November 19, 2026 release date and said digital preloading begins November 12 in its June 2026 announcement. These are announced dates and can change.
Will the boxed edition save you from downloading GTA 6?
No. Rockstar says the physical edition contains a download code, not a disc. Buyers of the boxed package will still need to download the game and have enough storage available on their console.

How to make room on PS5
Start by checking free space, then remove or relocate games you are not using. Sony’s PS5 storage guidance covers these options.
- Open Settings > Storage to see how console space is being used.
- Delete games or applications you no longer need. Purchased games can be downloaded again from your game library. If a game offers a Customize option, you may be able to remove unused add-ons without deleting the rest of the game.
- Move PS5 games you are not currently playing to USB extended storage. This frees console space, but a PS5 game stored on USB cannot be played from that drive; move it back to console storage or an M.2 SSD first. See Sony’s USB extended storage instructions.
- If you want additional storage that can run PS5 games, install a compatible M.2 NVMe SSD in the console. Follow Sony’s M.2 SSD requirements and installation guidance, including its drive and heatsink dimension limits.

Sony’s compatibility guidance specifies a PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 NVMe interface and a supported capacity from 250 GB to 8 TB. It recommends sequential read speeds of 5,500 MB/s or faster and requires effective heat dissipation. These are specifications for a compatible PS5 drive, not a prediction of GTA 6’s size. Check the drive and heatsink dimensions against Sony’s requirements before choosing an SSD.

What Xbox Series X|S owners should do
Rockstar and Take-Two list Xbox Series X|S as launch platforms, but the cited information does not provide a GTA 6 storage figure or specific Xbox storage-management steps. Check the game’s Xbox store listing for its eventual requirement and use Xbox’s own guidance for managing or expanding storage; PS5 USB and M.2 instructions do not apply to Xbox.
