The inaugural Esports World Cup in Riyadh was announced with a prize pool of more than $60 million for its summer 2024 event. The headline total covered several competitions and awards—not a single prize for one winner. The figure is historical: the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) later announced a pool of more than $70 million for the 2025 edition.
How the 2024 prize pool was divided
EWCF’s April 16, 2024 announcement grouped the more-than-$60-million total into four categories. It described planned allocations, not an independently audited final payout ledger.
| Category | 2024 announced amount | What it covered |
|---|---|---|
| Club Championship | $20 million | Allocation for the top 16 clubs, ranked on overall performance across the event’s games. |
| Game Championships | More than $33 million combined | Prize money across 20 game-specific championships. |
| MVP Awards | $50,000 per competition | An award for a standout participant in each competition. |
| Qualifiers | More than $7 million | Prize money for qualifying events held before the Game Championships. |
These amounts use thresholds such as “more than” and should not be added together as if they were exact, reconciled line items. The overall total was announced as more than $60 million.
What made the Club Championship different
The Club Championship connected results across multiple games. Clubs selected the games in which they would compete, and their performance across the Game Championships determined the club standings. EWCF said the $20 million Club Championship allocation would go to the top 16 clubs based on overall performance; it was separate from the game-by-game prize pools.

Why the announcement listed 19 games but 20 competitions
EWCF’s 2024 announcement named 19 participating games while describing 20 Game Championships, and said additional games were forthcoming. The game count and competition count therefore referred to different things: one listed title could have more than one competition, and the initial list was not presented as final.
How the 2025 prize pool compared
On April 10, 2025, EWCF announced more than $70 million for the next edition, describing it as a $10 million increase over the inaugural event. The announced category figures differed as follows:

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | More than $60 million | $20 million for the top 16 clubs | More than $33 million combined across 20 competitions | $50,000 per competition | More than $7 million |
| 2025 | More than $70 million | $27 million | More than $38 million combined | $450,000 total pool | More than $5 million for Road to EWC qualifiers |
The figures are announcement amounts, not a verified final accounting of payouts. The MVP figures are also described on different bases: per competition in 2024 and as a total pool in 2025.
What the reported audience figures mean
EWCF’s 2025 announcement reported more than 500 million online viewers and 2.6 million visitors to Boulevard City for the 2024 event. Separately, the Saudi Press Agency reported more than 500 million viewers and more than 250 million hours watched across the eight-week event. These are differently framed publisher-reported measures; they should not be combined or treated as directly comparable without shared methodology.

EWCF described the inaugural event’s announced total as the largest esports tournament prize pool at the time. That is a dated claim by the event organizer, not a current record claim. The foundation’s announcement explains the headline total and planned categories, but does not independently verify final payouts.
