When a license expires, a publisher may stop selling a game or song pack—but that does not necessarily mean existing owners lose access. The outcome depends on the specific title, service, and publisher policy.
Why songs disappear from rhythm games
A rhythm game needs permission to use music in the product and context in question. That permission is arranged with rights holders, which can include artists and labels. Ubisoft’s Rocksmith development team described music licensing as “one of the foundations Rocksmith stands on” and said the process involves careful work and discussions with artists and labels.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Those arrangements shape a game’s catalog over time. If the relevant license expires and the publisher does not renew it, the publisher may have to stop selling the affected game, song, or downloadable content (DLC). A song disappearing from a store is therefore often an availability change tied to music rights—not evidence that the track has been removed from every copy of the game.
The announcements discussed here do not establish a universal legal checklist for every song, country, platform, or use. They do establish a practical point for players: a song’s presence in one product does not prove it is available in another product, on a subscription service, or for streaming and sharing gameplay footage.

What licensing can change for players
A song or game can stop being sold
A publisher can announce that a game or specific songs and packs will be removed from digital stores. For Rocksmith 2014, Ubisoft announced that the game would be removed from sale on October 23, 2023, with DLC packs and individual songs scheduled for removal over time. Its announcement also listed scheduled delistings for songs and packs. Those dates described Ubisoft’s announced schedule; they should not be treated as a current inventory of what is available in every store or region.
Delisting means that new digital purchases may no longer be possible through the affected store after the applicable removal. It does not, by itself, answer what happens to a copy or DLC a player already owns.
Existing purchases may remain usable—or may not
Ubisoft said that people who had already purchased Rocksmith 2014 or its DLC could continue to install, redownload, play, and use those products after they were removed from stores. That is a specific policy for this game, not a general promise about rhythm games. A different publisher, product, platform, or store can set a different outcome.

When a song pack disappears, check the publisher’s notice for separate answers to three questions: can new players still buy it, can existing owners download it again, and can existing owners still play it? Those are distinct issues. A notice that says “removed from sale” does not necessarily say that previously purchased content has been disabled.
A song may not transfer to a sequel or subscription
Music permissions are tied to the product or service covered by an agreement. Ubisoft said in a July 2021 Rocksmith+ developer diary that “Rocksmith+ uses brand new licensing deals.” The company said the subscription service required new music deals and would initially include less than a majority of the songs in Rocksmith 2014.
So owning a track in one Rocksmith product did not mean that the same track would automatically appear in Rocksmith+. A sequel, relaunch, subscription, or separate game may need its own agreement. Players should look for an explicit carryover announcement rather than assume a purchase transfers.

Three different licensing outcomes, compared
These examples show why it helps to distinguish a store delisting, a new service catalog, and the removal of songs from one service. They are title-specific announcements, not rules that apply to every publisher.

| Rocksmith+ | The subscription service used new licensing deals rather than automatically carrying over the earlier game’s catalog. | Ubisoft said it would initially include less than a majority of Rocksmith 2014’s songs. | Launch approach described in a July 2021 developer diary; it does not establish the service’s current song list. |
| Just Dance services | Ubisoft announced selected song removals from Just Dance Now and Just Dance Unlimited. | Ubisoft said Just Dance+ would remain unaffected by those announced removals. | Different services had different dates in Ubisoft’s April 2024 notice. Why one publisher’s services can have different song lists
A publisher can have several music products with separate catalogs and license arrangements. In April 2024, Ubisoft announced that selected songs would be removed from Just Dance Now and Just Dance Unlimited on different dates, while saying the Just Dance+ catalog would not be affected by those removals.
That distinction matters: “a song is leaving Just Dance” is less precise than naming the service. A change to one catalog does not establish a change to every product from the same publisher. Nor should dates in an older notice be read as a live catalog status; song availability can change after an announcement.

Can a removed Rocksmith song come back?
It can, if a publisher reaches a new agreement for that material, but a return is not guaranteed. In a later update, Ubisoft said that after the original Rocksmith music licenses expired, it made Rocksmith 2014 Learn & Play available as a one-time purchase on Steam and was working to relicense some popular songs that had disappeared from stores.
This is evidence that publishers may seek renewed rights for selected songs. It is not a promise that every removed track will return, that it will return to every product, or that a player’s old purchase will cover a new version. Look for a specific announcement naming the song, product, platform, and availability terms.
Music licensing can affect streaming and clips, too
Having permission to include music in gameplay does not establish that a player can freely broadcast or publish the game’s audio. Epic’s creator guidance for Fortnite Festival warned that third-party copyright detection systems may flag videos on demand (VODs) or clips featuring selected Jam Tracks. It recommended disabling those tracks while streaming.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Epic also said Fortnite’s Licensed Audio settings—“Mute Others” and “Mute All”—did not apply to Main Stage. That guidance dates to the game’s launch period, so creators should check current Epic and streaming-platform guidance before relying on those settings. The general player takeaway is to distinguish listening in the game from recording or sharing its audio: the permissions and controls described for gameplay do not necessarily settle what happens to a VOD or clip.
Fortnite Festival: a mode change is not a catalog guarantee
Epic’s support information, checked in October 2026, said Fortnite Festival was not ending. It stated that Battle Stage went offline on April 16, 2026, while Main Stage, Jam Stage, and music features across Fortnite would continue to be improved.
A mode going offline and a song leaving a catalog are different changes. Epic’s statement about Festival’s continuing modes does not guarantee that any particular song will remain available. For an individual track, check its current availability in the relevant game and platform rather than inferring it from the status of a mode.

- Identify the exact product. Note the game, song or pack, platform, and store. If the publisher operates several games or services, confirm which catalog the notice names.
- Read the effective date and scope. Separate a scheduled removal from a completed one, and check whether the notice covers the base game, individual songs, packs, or a subscription catalog.
- Look for an owner-access statement. Find out separately whether prior purchases remain playable and whether they can be installed or downloaded again. Do not infer either answer from the word “delisted.”
- Check carryover explicitly. For a sequel or subscription, look for a statement that names the songs or explains the new catalog. An earlier purchase alone does not establish inclusion.
- Recheck current store and creator guidance. Availability can differ by service and change over time. If you stream or post clips, check current audio controls and platform rules as well as the in-game catalog.
What players should take away
Music licensing shapes both the contents and the lifespan of a rhythm-game catalog. A license change may stop new purchases, lead to a different catalog in a successor service, or affect only one of several related products. Existing-owner access is a separate policy question: Ubisoft explicitly preserved access to previously purchased Rocksmith 2014 content after its delisting, but that example should not be generalized to other games.
For a reliable answer about a particular song, use the publisher’s notice for that named title or service, then verify current store availability and owner-access terms for your platform. If the question concerns streaming or clips, check creator guidance separately; in-game availability does not by itself establish permission or protection for shared video.
