Nintendo Switch Online icon rewards have three separate clocks: unspent Platinum Points expire six months after collection; icon elements you have redeemed stay in your Icon Collection even if your membership ends; and the catalog of elements on offer rotates. So the six-month deadline applies to points, not to parts already redeemed.
What expires, and what stays?
| What you have | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Unspent Platinum Points | They are valid for six months after collection, then expire under Nintendo’s month-end processing rules. Nintendo’s My Nintendo points guidance | Check your signed-in account’s Points history and spend points before their listed expiration. |
| Icon elements already redeemed | They remain accessible in your Icon Collection even if your Nintendo Switch Online membership ends, including elements exclusive to Expansion Pack members. Nintendo Support; Expansion Pack FAQ | Open Icon Collection to find and use them. |
| Elements not yet redeemed | The currently offered catalog changes: Nintendo says themes change monthly and elements refresh weekly. An element may no longer be available after the catalog refreshes. Nintendo’s Missions & Rewards announcement | Check Missions & Rewards for current availability and item requirements. |
When do Platinum Points expire?
Nintendo says Platinum Points are valid for six months after they are collected. Expiration is processed at 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on the last day of the month; when Pacific Standard Time is in effect, processing occurs an hour later. For example, Nintendo’s support overview says points earned April 15, 2025 expire October 31, 2025. Your account’s Points history is the best place to check your balance and which points have expired. My Nintendo: About points; My Nintendo Points Overview
Do icon parts disappear if you cancel Nintendo Switch Online?
No. Nintendo Support says: “Once an icon element has been added to your Icon Collection, you will not lose access to it—even if you no longer have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.” The same retention rule applies to Expansion Pack-exclusive elements after that higher membership ends. This is about access to redeemed elements; it does not make unspent Platinum Points permanent. Nintendo Support guide; Expansion Pack FAQ
How to redeem and use icon rewards
- On a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console with internet access, open Nintendo Switch Online from the HOME Menu and choose your user.
- Open Missions & Rewards. Browse the available games and check the requirements for each element before redeeming it with Platinum Points.
- Open Icon Collection to view redeemed elements. Choose an available icon or create one using elements for that game.
Nintendo identifies three element types: characters, backgrounds, and frames. Its icon-maker explainer describes redeeming those elements in Missions & Rewards and assembling them into a profile icon. Nintendo Support guide; Nintendo icon-maker explainer, April 7, 2026

You completed the activity but did not collect the points
Some missions have a deadline for collecting their points. If it passes, Nintendo says the mission counts as completed but the points are not granted. After meeting the activity condition, return to Missions or My Nintendo and collect the points before the deadline shown for that mission. Nintendo Support guide

The item has an eligibility condition
Redeeming elements requires an active, paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and an internet-connected Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console. Requirements can also be specific to an item: some elements require Expansion Pack membership, playing the related game while the elements are available, or playing on at least three separate days within the previous 30 days. Read the item’s own requirements in Missions & Rewards; the three-day condition is not a general rule for every reward. Nintendo Support guide; Expansion Pack FAQ
The current catalog has refreshed
If an element is no longer listed, it may have left the current offer rotation. Catalog and mission availability, along with ways to earn points, can vary by country or region. The live Missions & Rewards screen is the place to check what is currently offered for your account. Nintendo’s Missions & Rewards announcement; My Nintendo Points Overview
