You must be at least 13 years old to use Roblox voice chat, and you must complete Roblox’s required age check. Turning 13 does not enable voice chat automatically: you still need to opt in, and access depends on your region and whether the experience supports voice.
What you need to use Roblox voice chat
- Be 13 or older. Roblox says first-time setup requires users to be at least 13.
- Complete an age check. Roblox’s current setup instructions specify ID verification or Facial Age Estimation. Phone verification is not a valid way to gain voice-chat access under those instructions. See Roblox’s Voice Chat setup instructions.
- Opt in. Voice chat is not enabled by default, even after you pass the age check.
- Use an eligible region and experience. Voice chat may not be available in every region, and the specific Roblox experience must support it.
How to turn voice chat on
- Sign in to the Roblox account and complete the age check using ID verification or Facial Age Estimation.
- Join a Roblox experience that supports voice chat.
- In the experience, open its settings and turn on voice chat, or select the headphone icon if it appears.
Roblox’s setup guide describes these ways to connect. If the voice control is missing, check the account’s communication settings and Roblox’s current regional availability guidance rather than assuming that turning 13 alone will unlock it.
Why voice chat may not appear
- The account has not completed an accepted age check. Phone verification does not qualify for voice-chat access under Roblox’s current setup instructions.
- The experience does not support voice. Try an experience that offers the feature; availability is set at the experience level as well as the account level.
- Voice chat is unavailable in your region. Roblox maintains a list of supported countries. Its guidance advises users outside those countries to use ID verification, but regional availability can still affect access.
- Account controls restrict communication. Age-group settings, parental controls, and regional rules can affect communication features. Review Roblox’s communication guidance and account settings.
Does a headset or microphone unlock voice chat?
No. A headset or microphone may help you speak, but equipment does not meet Roblox’s minimum-age requirement, complete the age check, or guarantee access. Eligibility comes from the account, the age check, regional availability, and experience support.
