Tails is usually listed as 8 years old in older official character-profile material. Current SEGA profiles describe him as a young fox but do not state a number, so eight is best treated as a legacy game-profile age—not a confirmed age shared by every Sonic continuity.
Where does Tails’s age of 8 come from?
An older character-profile document lists Tails’s age as 8. The search result identifying the profile shows SEGA copyright, but the PDF itself was not accessible for direct inspection; the number should therefore be attributed to that older profile rather than described as a recently reconfirmed fact. What do current SEGA profiles say?
SEGA’s current Japanese Sonic Channel profile describes Tails as a kind-hearted young fox and provides other character details, but no numerical age. SEGA Sonic Channel profile SEGA’s Classic Tails profile likewise provides character and physical details without an age. SEGA Classic Tails profile The Sonic Superstars character page calls him a highly motivated mechanic and Sonic’s sidekick, also without giving a number. SEGA Sonic Superstars profile
Does the game describe him as a child?
Yes. SEGA’s Sonic Origins manual calls Tails “A kindly kid fox with two tails.” That wording supports the general description of Tails as a child, but it does not state his age. The manual also identifies Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as the game that introduced Tails as a playable character. SEGA Sonic Origins manual

Is Tails 8 in every Sonic continuity?
The available profiles do not establish one numerical age for every game, comic, television series, and film version. The age-eight listing belongs to older character-profile material; current SEGA profiles checked omit a number. Treat claims about a particular adaptation or continuity separately unless that version has its own reliable age statement.

Release dates do not establish a fictional character’s age. Tails’s debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 provides context for when the character was introduced, not a way to calculate his age in later games.
