Can you get a PlayStation Store refund? Sometimes—but a 14-day window is not a free trial. In the UK and Canada, Sony’s standard policy for a game or add-on generally requires that you request the refund within 14 days of purchase and that downloading or streaming has not started. Pre-orders, in-game consumables and subscriptions have different conditions. The rules and support process vary by account country, so check the official page for your market before submitting a request.
Can you get a refund on a PlayStation game or add-on?
Under Sony’s UK and Canada policies, a digital game or game add-on may be cancelled within 14 days of purchase only if its download or streaming has not begun. If you have downloaded or streamed the content, it is generally ineligible under those policies unless it is faulty. Contact support about faulty content, but do not assume a refund will be approved. Local consumer rights may also apply. See the UK cancellation policy or Canada cancellation policy.

That means the 14 days are a request window, not permission to download and try a game before deciding. Downloading can include preloading or an automatic download, not just a download you start manually.
How pre-order refunds work
Pre-orders use the release date as well as the payment date to determine the request window. Sony’s UK and Canada policies distinguish between orders paid for more than 14 days before release and those paid for during the 14 days before release; the US support page describes the same basic timing. In either case, the main content must not have started downloading or streaming for the standard eligibility described by Sony.

| When you paid | When to request | Download condition |
|---|---|---|
| More than 14 days before release | Before the release date | The main content must not have started downloading or streaming. |
| 14 days or less before release | Within 14 days of payment | The main content must not have started downloading or streaming. |
Sony says preloading counts as downloading the main part of the content. Check the purchase and download status promptly, and check whether automatic downloads are enabled: a download may begin without you pressing the download button. Cancelling a pre-order can also remove access to bonus content made available before launch. Details are on Sony’s US pre-order guidance.
Can you refund in-game purchases and currency?
Consumables—such as virtual currency, boosts and other items depleted during play—have a launch or delivery condition that differs from the rule for a game or DLC. Sony’s Ireland guidance says the purchase must have been made through PlayStation Store, the request must be within 14 days, and the game must not have launched after the purchase. The Ireland refund guidance explains the eligibility checklist.

Sony’s UK and Canada policies explain why launching matters: a consumable bought through the Store outside the game is delivered the next time the game launches, while an item bought during gameplay is delivered immediately. Delivered consumables are generally not refundable unless faulty. As a result, simply opening the game after buying a Store consumable may affect eligibility.
Subscription refunds are different from cancelling renewal
Sony’s Ireland, UK and Canada guidance describes a 14-day period from the initial subscription transaction to request a refund. Free-trial days count within that period. If you have used the service—for example, played online, downloaded monthly games or used cloud storage—the refund may be reduced to account for that use. Ireland’s guidance says its refund criteria apply to the first payment, not a recurring fee.

Turning off renewal is a separate action: it stops future billing but does not refund a payment already made. Under the UK and Canada policy, access generally continues until the next payment date after cancellation. For eligibility and terms in your country, use the applicable market’s policy page.
How to submit a refund request
- Check the country linked to your account. Open the PlayStation Support refund or cancellation policy for that market; do not assume a rule or support process described for another country applies to you.
- Identify the purchase category and status. Check the purchase date, release date if it is a pre-order, and whether the content downloaded, streamed, was preloaded, or was delivered after a game launch.
- Contact PlayStation Support through the market’s official flow. The Ireland page directs customers to contact PlayStation or use its online assistant. Other markets may present different contact options.
- Confirm the refund destination and timing with support. The Ireland page says a refund may take 10 days and is returned to the original payment method where possible; if that is not possible, Sony credits the PlayStation wallet. This timing and fallback are Ireland-specific, not a promise for every market.
Other limits to keep in mind
- Wallet top-ups: Sony’s Ireland, UK and Canada guidance says wallet funds cannot be cancelled.
- Voucher codes: If you bought a voucher from a retailer, contact that retailer; Sony’s Ireland page says those codes are purchased outside PlayStation Store.
- Account market and local law: Sony publishes country-specific policies. Check the page for the country associated with your account, and consider any consumer rights that apply locally.
Sony’s cited policy pages were checked on October 7, 2026. Policies and support processes can change; use the linked country-specific guidance for the current terms.
