The published numbers show enormous reach and strong demand; they measure shipments, production and audience or distribution—not consolidated revenue, operating profit or net income.
Why there is no single public profit figure
“Pokémon” is a franchise, not a single financial line item. The Pokémon Company is one corporate entity within a wider business involving group companies, rights holders, developers, licensees and distribution partners. A figure for one company, product or licensee would not automatically represent the franchise’s total revenue or profit.
The Pokémon Company’s corporate history says its predecessor was established in April 1998 with investment from Nintendo, Creatures and Game Freak, which it identifies as the original copyright holders. Its company profile lists group companies including The Pokémon Company International and Pokémon Center Co., Ltd. Those facts do not establish current contractual rights, ownership economics or how profit is divided among the parties.
It also matters what “profit” means. Consumer spending or retail sales are not the same as revenue recognized by a rights holder; revenue is not the same as operating profit; and neither is the same as net income. A franchise-wide answer would require disclosures with a defined entity, fiscal period and accounting measure. The official materials cited here do not provide a current consolidated revenue or profit figure for Pokémon as a whole.

Where Pokémon makes money
The Pokémon Company describes a business spanning video games, the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), apps, video and animation, official shops, licensing and tie-ins, and overseas operations. Outside Asia, The Pokémon Company International says it handles brand management, licensing, marketing, the TCG, animation and home entertainment.
- Video games: sales of Pokémon game software.
- Trading cards: the physical TCG, distributed across many countries and regions.
- Apps and video: digital products, animation and home entertainment.
- Licensing and consumer products: licensed goods and tie-ins.
- Official shops: retail operations, including Pokémon Center.
These are documented business activities, not a breakdown of how much each contributes to revenue or profit. The available descriptions do not provide comparable channel-level financial results.

What the official scale figures do—and do not—show
The Pokémon Company’s figures as of March 2026 demonstrate global scale. Each metric, however, describes a different kind of reach rather than financial performance.
| Official figure | What it measures | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| More than 515 million Pokémon-related video game software units shipped, as of March 2026 (The Pokémon Company) | Cumulative software shipments | Revenue, profit or units sold to end customers |
| More than 85 billion Pokémon TCG cards manufactured, as of March 2026 (The Pokémon Company) | Cumulative card production | Cards sold, sales revenue or profit |
| TCG sales in more than 90 countries and regions, as of March 2026 (The Pokémon Company) | Distribution reach | Sales value or profitability by market |
| Pokémon TV anime broadcast in more than 190 countries and regions, as of March 2026 (The Pokémon Company) | Broadcast reach | Audience size, licensing income or profit |
These figures are useful evidence of the franchise’s reach, but they cannot be added together or converted into a profit estimate: they count different things and do not disclose prices, costs, margins or the share recognized by any one company.

What one major game launch tells us
In an October 2025 release, The Pokémon Company reported that Pokémon Legends: Z-A sold 5.8 million copies worldwide during its first week. The release says the count includes downloads and attributes the figure to Nintendo. It is a strong product-specific demand signal, but it does not disclose the game’s revenue, costs or margin—and it is not a measure of Pokémon’s overall profit.
What can responsibly be concluded
Pokémon earns through several substantial business lines and has exceptional global reach. But scale metrics, card production and a single game’s launch sales cannot answer how much profit the whole franchise makes. Without financial statements or reliable disclosures tied to a clearly defined entity and period, a specific current profit total would be speculation.
