When a PS Plus Game Catalog title leaves, your catalog access ends—even if the game is still installed—but that does not automatically delete your save. Downloaded-game saves are stored on your PS4 or PS5; streamed-game saves are stored in PlayStation’s streaming storage. Keep the save, and you may be able to use it again if you buy the game while it is still available and the save is compatible.
What changes when a game leaves the catalog?
PlayStation Plus Extra includes access to the Game Catalog, and Premium includes Extra benefits. Sony says some Game Catalog and Classics Catalog games have announced end dates. Once a title leaves, its catalog entitlement ends: downloading it beforehand does not make it a permanent purchase. Check the current US PlayStation Plus game catalog for title listings and removal information; availability can vary by region and change over time.
Access and saved data are separate. Losing the catalog license is not the same as deleting the save. Sony’s May 23, 2022 PlayStation Plus guide says that if a title remains available on PlayStation Store and you purchase it, you can access its save data again, provided you have not deleted the save. That does not establish that every removed game remains for sale or that every edition can use the same save.
Where your save is stored depends on how you played

Sony warns that saved data is not automatically transferred between streamed and downloaded versions. Its save and transfer guide explains the available cloud-storage steps. A save also does not itself grant access to the game: you still need an active entitlement, such as a qualifying membership while the title remains in the catalog, or a compatible purchased copy.

How to protect or move your save
Before a game’s removal date, check that the latest save is where you expect it to be. If you may switch consoles or move between streaming and downloading, upload or copy the save using the relevant PlayStation Plus saved-data controls. Menu labels and the exact route differ between PS5, PS4, and PC streaming, so use Sony’s live guide for current directions.
Upload a downloaded save
- PS5, downloaded PS4 game save: Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS4) > Upload or Delete from Console Storage > Upload to Cloud Storage.
- PS4: In Library, highlight the game, press OPTIONS, choose Upload/Download Saved Data, then select Upload.
Manage a streamed save
While streaming on PS5 or PS4, use the PlayStation Plus card or Application Saved Data Management to open saved-data management. Sony’s instructions differ for PC, PS5, and PS4 streaming; follow the platform-specific steps in its support guide to copy between Game Streaming Storage and Online Storage.

Restore a save
For a downloaded game, select the cloud save and download it to console storage. For a streamed game, copy the save back to Game Streaming Storage. If you buy a removed title, confirm that you are using the right platform and edition, then retrieve the retained save through the appropriate storage option. Compatibility is not guaranteed for every version or edition.
Catalog removal, membership lapse, and switching play modes are different cases

One older offline-validation rule needs a date attached
Sony’s May 23, 2022 guide said downloaded Extra, Premium, or Deluxe catalog games needed PSN validation every seven days, while that requirement did not apply to Essential monthly downloadable games. This is a dated policy statement, not a guarantee of the current rule for every region, plan, or title. Check Sony’s current membership information and the applicable game terms rather than treating the 2022 interval as universal present-day policy.

Before relying on a particular game or save
- Check the title’s current catalog status and removal date for your region.
- Check whether the exact title and edition are still available for purchase on your region’s PlayStation Store.
- Identify whether your save is local, in Online Storage, or in Game Streaming Storage, and upload or copy it before changing devices or play modes.
- Confirm platform and edition compatibility before expecting a retained save to work with a purchased copy.
