You can make one by applying blue dye, but that is a player-created color, not a rare natural spawn.
Can blue sheep spawn naturally in Minecraft?
Not under the released vanilla rules documented for Java 1.21.5 and Bedrock 1.21.70. Mojang’s release notes list the sheep colors that naturally spawn by biome, and blue is not among them. Java 1.21.5 release notes and Bedrock 1.21.70 notes identify pink—not blue—as rare, without giving a percentage for pink either.
Why do players remember naturally spawning blue sheep?
Blue sheep appeared briefly in a Java snapshot experiment. Snapshot 25w07a introduced biome-based sheep colors that included blue in cold biomes. In Snapshot 25w08a, Mojang reverted that change before release, stating: “Reverted the change from last week that allowed Blue, Light Blue, Cyan, Yellow, Orange and Red Sheep to spawn naturally in different biomes”. Snapshot 25w07a and Snapshot 25w08a document the experiment and its removal.
How to make a blue sheep
Apply blue dye to a sheep to turn its wool blue. That gives you a blue sheep, but it does not mean the sheep spawned naturally. Minecraft Wiki’s Blue Dye entry describes dyeing sheep.
Which sheep colors spawn naturally?
The released notes describe the common and uncommon colors by biome, as well as rare pink sheep:
| Biome category | Common color | Uncommon colors | Rare color |
|---|---|---|---|
| Temperate | White | Black, gray, light gray, brown | Pink |
| Cold | Black | Gray, light gray, white, brown | Pink |
| Warm | Brown | Gray, light gray, white, black | Pink |
This is the broad pattern in the cited Java 1.21.5 and Bedrock 1.21.70 release notes. Neither release lists blue as a natural sheep color, and neither assigns a percentage to pink.

Does this apply to every Minecraft version or server?
No. This answer is limited to the named Java and Bedrock releases. A snapshot, mod, datapack, add-on, or custom server may change sheep spawning; the cited release notes do not establish what those custom setups do. If a sheep is blue, check the edition, version, and whether custom content or player-applied dye is involved before treating it as a naturally spawned sheep.
