There is no verified Molly-specific probability or official rarity ranking. A random encounter that hasn’t happened yet does not prove Molly has a special rarity status: Nintendo describes mystery-island visits as surprises and says players’ island experiences vary. If you want more control, compatible Animal Crossing amiibo cards can invite a chosen character to the campsite, though moving that character in requires repeated invitations and interactions.
Is Molly officially rare?
No official source cited here establishes that Molly is uniquely rare, ranks her among the rarest villagers, or gives her odds of appearing. The most accurate answer to “How rare is Molly in Animal Crossing?” is that her specific encounter probability is not established by the available sources.

Nintendo says mystery-island visits are surprises and that each player’s island experience varies. That explains why finding a particular villager can feel unpredictable, but it does not show that Molly has different odds from other villagers. A community-wiki result discusses campsite selection mechanics, but it is secondary information and does not provide Molly-specific odds; it should not be used to calculate a universal probability.
How can you try to get Molly?
Wait for a random encounter
You can rely on the game’s random visit or encounter process, but there is no verified Molly-specific probability to use when estimating how long that might take. A long wait alone is not evidence of an official rarity rank.

Invite a character with a compatible amiibo card
Nintendo documents using compatible Animal Crossing amiibo cards to invite selected characters to the campsite. After scanning a card through the Nook Stop at Resident Services, the corresponding character can visit. Nintendo notes that moving the character onto your island requires inviting them to the campsite multiple times and continuing to interact with them. This method offers more control than waiting for a random encounter, but the sources cited here do not verify Molly’s specific card or its current availability. Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons page describes amiibo cards as a way to invite characters you specifically want to the campsite; Nintendo Support explains the invitation process.
