How Sky: Children of the Light Put 10,061 People on Screen at Once

GamesBeat reported that Sky’s Aurora event put 10,061 people on screen in one server. The figure differs from cross-server participation and replay viewership.

Sky: Children of the Light’s Aurora concert reportedly showed 10,061 people on screen at once in a single server. That figure, reported by GamesBeat in its interview with Thatgamecompany CEO Jenova Chen, is not the same as the event’s total reach across servers—or the number of people who watched an earlier replay. The technical answer, Chen said, was to send nearby players in greater detail and simplify the information about people farther away.

What Sky’s reported record counted

GamesBeat’s September 8, 2023 interview with Jenova Chen, updated June 17, 2025, reports that 10,061 people were on screen at the same time in the same server during the Aurora event. The article says this supported the Guinness World Records title “Most users in a concert-themed virtual world.” The figure and title are attributed here to GamesBeat’s account; the Guinness record entry available for this story concerns a different category.
