Because PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate historically provided EA Play access on Windows, that removal also ended the former Game Pass route to the FIFA 23 PC trial for players who did not already own a valid entitlement.

This guide explains how the trial worked, why the old installation instructions no longer deliver FIFA 23, and what legitimate owners can still check. Do not treat installing the Xbox or EA app, changing launchers, or reconnecting accounts as a way to restore a removed EA Play listing.
What happened to the FIFA 23 PC trial?
At launch, FIFA 23 was available on PC through the EA app, Steam, and Epic Games Store. EA also offered an EA Play 10-hour trial on PC. Trial progress could carry over if the player later obtained the full game.

That was a historical 2022 access option, not a permanent Game Pass entitlement. EA’s service update records FIFA 23’s removal from The Play List on September 16, 2024, covering Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam, and the EA app.
Consequently, a current PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription should not be advertised or understood as including the FIFA 23 trial. Game Pass catalogs can also vary by date, region, subscription plan, and platform, so check the current Xbox and EA listings before relying on any subscription claim.
How Xbox Game Pass used to provide access
PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate included EA Play on Windows. Game Pass Core and Game Pass Standard did not provide that PC EA Play benefit, while EA Play Pro was a separate PC membership rather than a Game Pass feature.

- You held an eligible PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
- You signed in to the Xbox app for Windows with the Microsoft account holding that subscription.
- You launched an EA Play game from the Xbox app to begin connecting the Xbox and EA services.
- You installed or opened the EA app and signed in to the EA account linked to your platform account.
- You found FIFA 23 in the EA app and selected the trial download.
- You accepted the account-linking and platform prompts.
- You launched FIFA 23 from the EA app and played within the trial’s 10-hour limit.
That workflow explains the old articles and videos that mention “FIFA 23 trial through Game Pass.” It does not bypass the later catalog removal. The Xbox app can still connect an eligible subscription to EA Play, and the EA app can still install games for which your account has access, but neither application creates a FIFA 23 license.
Can you download FIFA 23 from the EA app now?
Only if the signed-in EA account has a legitimate FIFA 23 entitlement that remains available to it. Installing the EA app by itself is not enough, and an EA Play membership is not evidence that FIFA 23 is currently included.
If the game does not appear in your EA app library or the store page says that it is unavailable, the likely issue is entitlement or catalog status—not a missing Windows repair tool. Reinstalling the Xbox app, switching between Steam and Epic, creating another EA account, or repeatedly unlinking and relinking accounts cannot legitimately restore a removed EA Play title.
For readers who already own FIFA 23
Previously purchased or claimed games can behave differently from games accessed only through a subscription. Storefront and account history matter, and this behavior is not guaranteed to be identical across EA app, Steam, Epic Games Store, and every region.

If you believe you own FIFA 23, use this order:
- Open the EA app and sign in to the original EA account. Use the account associated with the purchase or the original platform connection.
- Check your EA app library. Search for FIFA 23 rather than relying only on the store page.
- Check the connected accounts area. Confirm that the intended Xbox, Steam, or Epic account is linked to the correct EA account.
- Restart after correcting a link. EA recommends restarting the platform and game after account linking.
- Check purchase history and receipts. If the game is absent, contact the relevant official storefront or EA support rather than using an unofficial installer.
Important account-linking warning
EA’s account guidance warns that only one EA account can be connected to a particular platform account. Unlinking can also create additional restrictions on future linking. Do not disconnect an account casually, especially if it contains your purchase history, saved progress, or other EA entitlements.
FIFA 23 PC system requirements
These requirements are still useful if you already possess a legitimate PC copy, but they do not indicate that the Game Pass trial is currently available.

EA specified that the PC version uses DirectX 12 exclusively and does not support DirectX 11. A computer meeting these specifications can run the game when a valid installation entitlement exists; hardware compatibility does not unlock the title.

Troubleshooting a legitimate installation
The game is missing from the EA app
First verify the EA account and connected platform account. If FIFA 23 was available only through the former EA Play listing and was never purchased or claimed, there may be no remaining entitlement to troubleshoot. If you own the game, check purchase history and contact official EA or storefront support.

The Xbox app says EA Play is unavailable
Check the subscription tier. PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate historically included EA Play on Windows; Game Pass Core and Game Pass Standard did not. Also check the current plan benefits because subscription inclusions can change.
The EA app will not connect the accounts
- Sign out of the EA app and sign back in with the EA account associated with the platform.
- Review the linked-accounts section before attempting any unlinking.
- Do not create a second EA account to work around an account mismatch.
- Restart the Xbox app, EA app, and game after a successful link.
- Confirm that Windows is 64-bit and that the system supports DirectX 12.
The game installs but will not launch
Confirm that there is roughly 100 GB of free storage, Windows and graphics drivers are up to date, and the computer meets the listed CPU, memory, and GPU requirements. Because FIFA 23 PC requires DirectX 12, a DirectX 11-only configuration is not supported.
Do not use third-party “unlockers,” pirated installers, modified platforms, account-sharing services, or software claiming to restore a removed EA Play entitlement. Besides creating security and account risks, those methods do not provide a legitimate FIFA 23 license. EA’s rules require an official, unmodified version of the game and an unmodified PC platform for supported access.
Optional controller for FIFA 23 on PC
If you already have legitimate access to the game and prefer console-style controls, an Xbox controller for PC is a practical accessory. EA states that most modern Xbox and PlayStation controllers are supported automatically in the EA app, although driver, firmware, Bluetooth, or USB issues can still affect detection.
A controller does not provide FIFA 23 access, restore the removed trial, bypass EA Play, or replace a valid game entitlement. It is only an input device for a game you are already entitled to play.

Bottom line
The old FIFA 23 Game Pass trial installation path was Xbox app → EA app → linked EA account. It worked when FIFA 23 was part of EA Play’s catalog and offered a 10-hour PC trial. EA removed FIFA 23 from The Play List on September 16, 2024, so a current Game Pass subscription should not be presented as a way to download that trial.
If FIFA 23 is in your existing EA library, troubleshoot the EA account link, platform ownership, DirectX 12 support, and storage. If it is not in your library, use only an official current entitlement route. Always verify Game Pass and EA Play availability for your country, plan, platform, and the date you intend to install.
