Roblox is a platform, not one game
The most important thing to understand about Roblox is that it is both a game platform and a game-creation platform. Roblox provides the app, account system, servers, discovery tools, storage, localization, payments, and development software. Its community creates much of the content that players actually use.
Recommended Free Tools
Roblox calls its individual user-created worlds experiences. An experience may be a conventional game, social hangout, learning environment, concert, simulation, role-playing world, obstacle course, or visual showcase. There is no single Roblox objective, story, genre, or difficulty level. The experience you choose determines the rules, progression, audience, social features, and purchases.
#1 Best Overall
- Redemption: Online only. Robux cards can only be redeemed in a browser at Roblox.com/redeem. They cannot be redeemed in the Roblox mobile app or any video game console.
- Roblox is an immersive platform for connection and communication. Every day, millions of people come to Roblox to create, play, work, learn, and connect with each other in experiences built by our global community of creators.
- Get more with every Roblox Gift Card! From now on, when you redeem a Roblox gift card, you get up to 25% more Robux. Perfect for gaming, creating, and exploring- more Robux means more possibilities!
- Deck out your avatar and unlock additional perks in your favorite experiences when you use Roblox Gift Cards to purchase Robux (Roblox's virtual currency).
- Each gift card grants a free virtual item upon redemption.
That distinction also explains why two Roblox experiences can feel completely unrelated. Roblox does not create or quality-control every experience on the platform, so players and parents need to evaluate individual experiences rather than treating the entire catalog as one uniform product.
Roblox is available through its client on supported mobile, desktop, console, and virtual-reality platforms. Device support, controls, communication features, and performance can vary by platform and by experience.
How playing Roblox works
- Create or sign in to an account. The account stores your avatar, friends, settings, purchases, and other platform activity.
- Find an experience. Roblox discovery pages surface experiences by category, popularity, recommendations, and search. A listing is not a guarantee of quality or suitability.
- Join the experience. The Roblox client loads the selected world and connects you to its servers.
- Learn that experience’s rules. Each creator decides the mechanics, controls, progression, objectives, and available purchases.
- Customize your identity. Your avatar can use clothing, accessories, bodies, heads, cosmetics, animations, and other items that Roblox supports across the platform.
Your avatar is a persistent platform identity, but that does not mean every item, ability, or achievement works identically everywhere. Experience-specific items and progression are controlled by the individual creator. Read the experience description and purchase prompts before spending Robux.

Marketplace versus Creator Store
These two Roblox destinations serve different audiences:
| Destination | Who uses it | What it contains |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace | Players and avatar creators | Avatar bodies, heads, clothing, accessories, animations, makeup, and other avatar-related items |
| Creator Store | Experience developers | Models, materials, plugins, scripts, user-interface elements, sound effects, and other development assets |
The Marketplace is where a player looks for something to wear or equip. The Creator Store is where a developer may look for a tool or reusable asset while building an experience. A Creator Store asset is not automatically an avatar item, and an avatar accessory is not automatically a development component.
Robux, purchases, and gift cards
Robux is Roblox’s virtual currency. Depending on the experience and the user’s region, Robux may be used for avatar items, experience passes, developer products, private servers, subscriptions, and other eligible services. Prices, purchase methods, regional availability, and promotional bonuses change, so a permanent Robux price chart is likely to become inaccurate.
In-experience purchases usually fall into two broad categories:
- Passes: generally one-time purchases that grant a permanent or ongoing privilege defined by the experience creator.
- Developer products: repeatable purchases such as virtual currency, boosts, ammunition, lives, or other consumables.
Subscriptions can provide recurring benefits for a monthly fee. Private servers can provide a more controlled play environment where that experience supports them. Neither purchase guarantees that an experience will remain available, change in the way a buyer expects, or provide value indefinitely; check the description and terms before confirming a purchase.
Is a Roblox gift card a good option?
For a gift or a controlled spending budget, a Roblox gift card is a legitimate option when purchased from an authorized retailer. Under current U.S. terms, cards can be redeemed for Roblox Credits or, for certain cards, directly for Robux. They do not expire under those U.S. terms and cannot be redeemed for cash. A minor needs parent or guardian consent to redeem a card.
Promotional Robux or virtual-item bonuses are not permanent features. Roblox says bonuses may be limited, changed, replaced, or discontinued. Treat any bonus as a current promotion rather than as part of the card’s guaranteed long-term value.

Roblox Studio and the creator ecosystem
Roblox Studio is Roblox’s all-in-one development environment for building, scripting, testing, and publishing experiences. A beginner can start with a template or simple scene, add parts and assets, script behavior, test the result, and publish it through Roblox’s creator tools.
Roblox Creator Hub documentation covers Studio, experiences, 3D art, tutorials, the engine API, avatar creation, publishing, discovery, analytics, and monetization. Creator Hub itself is the browser-based management area for creator projects, earnings information, analytics, documentation, and related services.
For teams and more advanced tools, Roblox also provides Open Cloud APIs. These APIs allow external tools and applications to interact with creator projects. They are useful for automation and production workflows, but a beginner does not need Open Cloud to make a first experience.
A sensible first project
- Start small. A compact obstacle course, short exploration scene, or simple multiplayer mechanic is easier to test than a large persistent world.
- Learn the Studio interface. Become comfortable placing objects, organizing the project, testing in different play modes, and checking what happens when players join or leave.
- Learn Luau scripting. Use official tutorials and API documentation before copying code from an unknown source. Understand what a script does before placing it in a published project.
- Use assets deliberately. Check an asset’s creator, permissions, dependencies, performance impact, and scripts. Keep records of rights for models, images, sounds, and other content.
- Test repeatedly. Test the experience as a new player, on the devices you intend to support, with multiple players when applicable, and after every significant change.
- Publish carefully. Give the experience an accurate title and description, choose appropriate content information, configure access, and use moderation-safe thumbnails and promotional material.
- Improve from evidence. Creator Hub analytics can reveal where players leave, which devices they use, and whether an update actually improves engagement.
Publishing is not the end of development. A creator remains responsible for maintaining the experience, responding to player reports, reviewing assets and scripts, protecting users’ information, and keeping paid features understandable.
The Creator Store
The Creator Store contains millions of assets from Roblox and independent creators, including models, materials, plugins, gameplay scripts, interface elements, and sound effects. It can save development time, but convenience is not a substitute for review. A free or popular asset may still be unsuitable, inefficient, poorly documented, or incompatible with the rest of a project.
Eligible sellers can sell models and plugins for U.S. dollars. Roblox’s stated real-world pricing model says eligible sellers receive 100% of net proceeds, subject to the applicable store, payment, eligibility, and policy terms. That statement applies to the stated Creator Store model; it should not be generalized to every Roblox sale or every type of creator income.
Avatar creation is a separate path
Creators can also work on bodies, heads, clothing, accessories, emotes, makeup, and other avatar items. Marketplace creation has its own eligibility rules, identity-verification requirements, publishing advances or upload fees, moderation standards, marketplace policies, and revenue-share rules. Current earnings vary by the sale context and item type.
Someone who wants to design avatar fashion does not necessarily need to build a full playable experience. Conversely, a Studio developer does not automatically qualify to sell Marketplace items. Check the current creator requirements before investing in software, inventory, or a production plan.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow Roblox creators make money
Roblox offers several monetization tools, but access to a tool is not evidence that an experience will earn money. Audience fit, retention, originality, moderation, discoverability, and ongoing development matter more than simply placing a purchase button in a game.
| Method | How it works | Main consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Passes | Players buy a one-time benefit | For a creator’s own passes, Roblox documentation states that the creator receives 70% of the Robux spent |
| Developer products | Players buy repeatable consumables | The item must offer clear value without making the experience unfair or confusing |
| Subscriptions | Players pay a recurring monthly fee for stated benefits | Benefits and renewal expectations should be explained clearly |
| Paid access | Players pay to enter where the feature is available | A paywall can limit discovery, so the experience must communicate its value |
| Private servers | Players pay for a more controlled server | Useful for groups, events, and social play, but availability and pricing are creator-controlled |
| Avatar items | Eligible creators sell Marketplace content | Eligibility, fees, moderation, item type, and sale context affect the result |
| Creator Rewards | Qualifying engagement and audience-expansion activity can generate rewards | Requirements and program mechanics are policy-sensitive and can change |
| Advertising and brand integrations | Immersive ads, sponsored work, or commerce features connect creators with advertisers or brands | Disclosure, suitability, user experience, and eligibility all matter |
| Creator Store sales | Eligible creators sell models and plugins for real-world currency | This is separate from Robux-based in-experience monetization |
Creator Rewards replaced the old affiliate program
Current creator guidance describes two Creator Rewards mechanisms: a daily-engagement reward for qualifying active spenders who play long enough, and an audience-expansion revenue share for qualifying new or returning users who find an experience through a direct link or search and meet the engagement conditions.

Roblox’s Developer Exchange, commonly called DevEx, allows eligible creators to convert earned Robux into real-world currency. Current Roblox materials state that a creator must be at least 13 and have at least 30,000 earned Robux, in addition to meeting other program requirements.
The word earned matters: do not treat purchased Robux, a gift-card balance, or an experience’s gross sales as automatically eligible for cash conversion. Exchange rates, tax responsibilities, verification requirements, and other terms should be checked directly in the current DevEx documentation before a creator treats Roblox income as predictable earnings.
Safety, age checks, and communication
Roblox is an online social platform as well as a content platform. Players may encounter chat, friends, voice communication, user-created material, purchases, and links or requests from other users. Automated systems help, but they do not make the platform risk-free.
Age checks are now tied to communication
As of 2026, Roblox requires users to complete an age check before using communication features. Roblox support guidance identifies experience chat, voice chat, and friend-related communication among the affected features. The global requirement is intended to limit communication between adults and minors, but the exact feature set still depends on age group, region, product, account settings, and rollout status.

Facial age estimation places users into age groups; Roblox says that images and video used for facial age estimation are deleted after processing. That is Roblox’s stated policy, not an independently audited privacy guarantee.
An age check is not the same as a promise that every interaction is safe. It is one part of an access-control system, and parents should continue to use privacy settings, supervision, blocking, reporting, and conversations about personal information.
Age groups and content maturity
Roblox’s current age-group framework includes Roblox Kids for younger children, Roblox Select for some children and teens, and broader Roblox access for older users. Features differ by age group and region.
Current content labels include:
- Minimal
- Mild
- Moderate
- Restricted
Restricted experiences are reserved for age-checked users who are 18 or older under current support guidance. A content label is useful context, but it does not replace a parent reviewing whether an individual experience is appropriate for a particular child.

Controls parents can use
A parent can link their account to a child’s account and manage or review settings such as:
- Content maturity and access to allowed or blocked experiences
- Text and voice communication
- Spending notifications and limits
- Screen-time insights
- Friends, blocking, and reporting
- Account visibility and privacy
- Private-server settings
Filtered chat is the default for eligible communication, and Roblox says its filters are designed to block inappropriate content and personal information. Players can also block accounts and report abuse. Because filters can miss context and users can behave unpredictably, a sensible family setup includes a linked parent account, a spending limit, age-appropriate content settings, and a clear rule never to share passwords, real names, addresses, school details, or private images.
Settings and labels can change as Roblox updates its age-check and parental-control systems. For the current controls, consult Roblox Support rather than relying on an old screenshot or guide.
Streaming and promoting a Roblox experience
Streaming is optional. It can help a creator show gameplay, explain a tutorial, promote an event, or build an audience, but it is not required to play Roblox or publish an experience.
For a creator who wants to broadcast their own recorded gameplay, tutorials, events, or promotional footage continuously, a service such as cloud streaming for Roblox creators can loop video to supported destinations such as YouTube Live, recover automatically after interruptions, and avoid leaving a local PC running. StreamNeo is a separate third-party service, not a Roblox product or requirement.
Keep a Roblox Creator Channel Live on YouTube Without a PC
StreamNeo lets Roblox creators upload a video and paste a YouTube stream key to turn owned or licensed gameplay, tutorials, events, or promotional footage into an always-on YouTube Live broadcast. Confirm that you have permission to broadcast every part of the material before starting.
The stream runs in the cloud while the PC stays off, so a creator can keep the channel live without leaving a computer or encoder running.
StreamNeo checks stream health every 30 seconds and restarts dropped streams automatically, helping continuous broadcasts recover without manual intervention.
A 24-hour 720p/30fps trial is free with no card at signup, giving creators a practical way to test the workflow before committing to continued use.
Only stream material that the creator owns or has permission to broadcast. That includes music, footage, images, voice recordings, and any third-party assets used in a Roblox video. A continuous stream also needs moderation and a plan for handling chat, copyright claims, and accidental exposure of private information.

Common beginner mistakes
- Calling everything a game. Experience is the broader and more accurate Roblox term because the platform includes social, educational, concert, simulation, and showcase spaces.
- Assuming Roblox made a particular experience. Most playable content is community-created, and quality and moderation can vary substantially.
- Confusing avatar purchases with game purchases. Marketplace items are avatar-related; passes and developer products are usually defined by a particular experience.
- Buying based on a bonus alone. Robux bonuses and virtual-item promotions can change or disappear.
- Using an old monetization guide. Payouts, eligibility, fees, exchange rates, and programs change. In particular, the old Creator Affiliate Program is no longer the current standalone program.
- Installing assets without inspecting them. Developers should review scripts, permissions, dependencies, performance, and ownership before using third-party assets.
- Publishing before testing. A project that works for its creator can still fail for a new player, a different device, or a multiplayer session.
- Treating age verification as complete safety protection. Age checks control access to features; they do not remove the need for supervision and privacy practices.
A practical Roblox starting plan
For a new player
- Use accurate account information and involve a parent or guardian when appropriate.
- Review privacy, communication, content-maturity, spending, and screen-time settings.
- Complete the applicable age-check process if you need communication or another age-gated feature.
- Begin with a small selection of experiences whose descriptions, content labels, and communities are appropriate for you.
- Do not assume that an item, currency, or progression system in one experience works the same way in another.
For a parent
- Link your parent account to the child’s account where the available controls require it.
- Set spending notifications or limits before adding a payment method.
- Review content maturity and communication access rather than relying only on the age shown on an experience page.
- Explain why passwords, personal information, private images, and off-platform contact requests should not be shared.
- Use blocking and reporting tools, and discuss anything that makes the child uncomfortable.
For a new creator
- Install or open Roblox Studio and follow the official Creator Hub learning path.
- Build one small, understandable experience before attempting a large multiplayer project.
- Learn basic Luau, testing, asset rights, moderation, analytics, and player-safety practices.
- Use Creator Store assets only after reviewing their source, scripts, rights, and technical impact.
- Publish with accurate content information and test the player experience after publishing.
- Add monetization only after the experience provides genuine value. Explain paid items, recurring benefits, and any chance-based mechanics clearly.
- Use current Creator Rewards and DevEx documentation when estimating income; do not build a business plan around an old payout article.
When Roblox runs poorly
Performance problems are not automatically caused by Roblox itself. A slow or unstable experience can result from the device, graphics settings, drivers, heat, memory pressure, Wi-Fi or other network conditions, the experience’s own code, or server load.
- Test another experience to see whether the problem is universal or limited to one creation.
- Lower Roblox’s graphics quality and close unnecessary applications.
- Check the device’s available storage, temperature, operating-system updates, and graphics drivers.
- Test a stable network connection and compare Wi-Fi with another supported connection where possible.
- Restart the client and device, then check Roblox’s support information for current service problems.
Third-party PC maintenance or driver utilities are not required for Roblox and cannot guarantee better frame rates. Diagnose the bottleneck first, and use only software you understand and trust.
