The Titanfall 2 VR mod converts the game’s single-player campaign into a VR experience. It runs as a Northstar client plugin, uses OpenXR, and hooks the game’s DirectX 11 renderer and camera to add stereo viewing, 6DoF head tracking, motion-controller weapon aiming, interactive reloads, adapted controls, and VR-adjusted HUD elements. The creator labels the current release alpha and single-player only.
How the mod works
The creator describes the mod as a Northstar plugin distributed as a DLL and an INI file. It hooks Titanfall 2’s DirectX 11 renderer and camera, then uses an OpenXR session to drive the VR view. Northstar is required to load it; Northstar’s FAQ describes its launcher as attaching to the game and injecting custom code and scripts.

The creator says the plugin does not modify game files or distribute game assets. It renders one eye per game frame, with each eye using the head pose from the frame in which that eye was drawn. The creator notes that each eye therefore refreshes at half the headset’s frame rate. This is how the implementation is described, not a published performance benchmark.
In the game’s input flow, the VR controllers are presented as an Xbox pad. The mod maps head movement to view direction and the right-hand controller to weapon aim, while adapting access to the game’s ordinary gamepad actions. It does not replace the campaign with a separate VR game.

What changes when you play
Pilot movement and controls
The controls guide documents these default mappings:
- Right trigger fires; left trigger aims down sights.
- Right A jumps; right B crouches.
- Left X reloads or interacts.
- A tap of left Y changes weapons; holding it opens the objective view.
- The left stick moves, and clicking it sprints. The right stick turns horizontally and handles two-option prompts vertically.
- Controller grips activate the tactical ability and ordnance.
Head tracking points the view, while right-hand tracking aims the weapon. Settings include snap or smooth turning, turn response and deadzones, three crouch modes, haptics, and a d-pad modifier for Titan controls.
Fast movement remains part of the game: wall-running and grappling can be intense in VR. Road to VR reported this as a potential comfort concern, not as a measured rate of motion sickness. Snap turning is available for players who prefer it.
Weapons and aiming
The mod adds manual or interactive reload behavior for campaign weapons, alongside motion-controller aiming and options for grip calibration, aiming-down-sights behavior, and weapon steadiness. Road to VR reported gesture-based reloading for the Wingman and interactive reloading for every gun; that is the outlet’s description of the release, not a result from a published test protocol.

Titan controls
Titan actions are adapted to the VR controller layout. The guide explains that holding a modifier lets the left thumbstick act as a d-pad, providing access to directional Titan actions. The available documentation supports describing this control adaptation, but does not establish that every Titan action has been independently tested.
HUD and in-headset settings
The creator documents repositioning and scaling for individual HUD elements, including ammo, the top-left cluster, name labels, reticle, waypoints, and Titan cockpit elements such as the surround, dash bars, and missile-lock rings. The controls guide lists 72 settings across eight categories, including resolution, world scale, eye height, turn mode, crouch mode, and weapon positioning.
The creator sets resolution to 75% by default because the mod does not measure a user’s GPU capability. You can raise or lower it in the in-headset settings panel; the creator says this resolution adjustment does not affect field of view. The default is a configurable starting point, not a performance recommendation for every PC.

CircuitLord’s installer documentation says the installer detects Titanfall 2 installations from Steam, EA, or Xbox PC installs, checks for the EA app, and installs Northstar and the VR mod into a separate TF2VR profile. After starting the chosen VR runtime, the user launches the mod from the installer’s “Launch in VR” button; launching the regular game remains unmodded.
Rank #3
The installer documentation says VR campaign saves and settings are stored separately at %LOCALAPPDATA%RespawnTitanfall2_VR, leaving ordinary campaign saves untouched.
The creator labels the release alpha, requires Northstar, and describes it as single-player only. The creator’s documented tests cover Meta Quest 3 and Play For Dream MR through Virtual Desktop’s VDXR runtime. Other headsets and OpenXR runtimes are untested in the creator’s notes, so compatibility beyond those configurations is unknown. Road to VR also described the mod as single-player-only in its October 2, 2026 coverage; multiplayer support should not be assumed.
What to know before trying it
- Expect a VR conversion of the campaign, not a separate VR title or a documented multiplayer mode.
- Northstar and an OpenXR runtime are part of the setup; the installer keeps its VR profile separate from the ordinary launch.
- Only Quest 3 and Play For Dream MR through Virtual Desktop VDXR are listed as creator-tested configurations. An unlisted headset or runtime may work, but the creator’s documentation does not establish that.
- The game’s movement can be demanding in VR. Snap turning is available, but it does not remove the effects of wall-running or grappling.
The installer’s author describes the mod and installer as community projects unaffiliated with or endorsed by the game’s developers or publishers. The conversion is not an official Titanfall 2 mode.
