Add a QR code to an encoder-based YouTube Live stream by adding the code image as a source in your streaming scene, placing it above the video, and testing it in the actual stream playback. The code itself is an overlay—not a special YouTube Live feature—and viewers need to be able to scan it and reach the intended store page.
1. Choose and check the destination
Decide where the QR code should send viewers: a product page, a promotion landing page, or your store. Open the URL on a phone and computer before creating the code. Check that the page loads, the offer is current, and the page is appropriate for the audience. The cited YouTube and OBS guidance does not set retail offer terms or tracking rules.
2. Create the QR code image
Generate a QR code for the destination URL and export it as an image, such as a PNG. Use a plain, high-contrast design—typically a dark code on a light background—so its pattern is easy to distinguish. A shorter URL can produce larger QR modules at the same displayed size; this is implementation advice, not a YouTube requirement. UseQR’s overlay guide describes a PNG-based approach.
Scan the saved image once before putting it on stream. This catches an incorrect URL or an image export problem early.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Add the image to your OBS scene
- Open the scene used for the YouTube Live promotion video.
- In the Sources panel, select +, choose Image, and select the saved QR image. OBS documents image sources and scene controls in its Sources Guide.
- In the Sources list, move the QR image above the video source and any other elements it should cover. Source order determines which elements appear on top.
- Use the preview to position and resize the code. Leave it visible without covering the product, important promotion text, captions, chat, alerts, or webcam.
- After placement, lock the source if you want to avoid moving it accidentally. Locking is optional.
4. Make the code usable throughout the loop
Place the QR code over a quiet area of the layout, with a stable, uncluttered background behind it. If the promotion uses multiple scenes or video segments, check each part where viewers are expected to act: the code should appear for the relevant call to action, and it should not disappear when the scene changes.
There is no YouTube-specific minimum QR-code size established in the official YouTube guidance cited here. UseQR suggests at least 200 × 200 pixels on a 1080p canvas, but that is its rule of thumb, not an official minimum or a guarantee that every viewer can scan it. Judge the size by testing on the playback viewers will actually see.

5. Connect the encoder and preview the stream
- In YouTube Live Control Room, get the stream URL and key from the stream settings and enter them in your encoder. YouTube’s live stream settings explain these controls.
- Start the encoder feed and inspect the Live Control Room preview before going live. Confirm that the video, audio, and QR overlay appear as intended.
- Test the setup and monitor stream quality. YouTube recommends previewing and testing an encoder stream before an event; see its live streaming tips and encoder guide.
6. Test the real viewer experience
Do not rely on the scene editor alone. Watch the actual stream playback on a separate viewer device at a typical playback quality, then try scanning the code from the distance and screen size viewers are likely to use. Confirm that it opens the right page and remains readable after streaming compression. YouTube transcodes live streams for playback across different devices and network conditions, so the viewer playback may not look exactly like the encoder preview. Its encoder settings guidance explains this transcoding context.
Troubleshooting
The QR code is hidden
Check the OBS Sources order. Move the Image source above the video or other elements that are covering it, then inspect the scene preview again.

The code appears in OBS but not in YouTube playback
Check the Live Control Room preview and verify that the correct scene is being sent by the encoder. If the promotion changes scenes, confirm that the QR image is included where needed.
The code is visible but phones cannot scan it
Enlarge it, increase contrast, and place it on a less busy background. Test from actual playback on a phone rather than judging only from the OBS preview. Compression, viewing distance, and screen size can affect scanability.
