How to add a friend on PS5
- Press the PS button to open the control center, then select Game Base.
- Open Friends and select Search for players. PlayStation says you can also start a search from the home screen.
- Search using the person’s real name or online ID. You can also find people through recently played players or friends of friends.
- Select the player to open their profile, then choose Add Friend.
PlayStation’s friend-management guide describes these PS5 steps. Menu wording may vary by region or change with system software updates.
Close Friend requests and profile details
If you select Become Close Friends, PlayStation says that accepting the request shares both users’ real names and profile pictures. Child accounts cannot send or receive Close Friends requests. Consider that sharing before choosing or accepting this request.
How to accept, decline, or cancel a friend request
When a request arrives, press the PS button to open its notification and choose whether to accept or decline. To manage requests later:

- Open Game Base > Friends > View All Friends > Friend Requests.
- Select an incoming request and choose Accept or Decline.
- To withdraw a request you sent, find it in the same tab and cancel it. Use Select Multiple if you want to act on several requests together.
For a request labelled Close friend request, accepting it shares real names and profile pictures, as described in PlayStation’s official guide.
How to remove someone from your Friends list
- Open the player’s profile.
- Select … (More) > Remove from Friends.
This removes the person from your Friends list. PlayStation documents blocking as a separate action with additional visibility and interaction restrictions; removal alone should not be treated as blocking.

When to block instead of remove
| Action | What it does | Choose it when |

| Remove from Friends | Takes the player off your Friends list. | You only want to end the friendship. |
| Block | Restricts the documented profile, activity, personal-information, party, message, and Share Screen interactions described below. | You want those additional restrictions, not just removal from your list. |
PlayStation’s blocking guide says blocked players cannot view each other’s profiles, activity, or personal information; add each other to parties; or watch each other’s screen through Share Screen. If someone adds the blocked player to a group, the two will not see each other’s messages. In the same party chat, they will not hear each other or see each other’s screen through Share Screen.

Block a player
- Open Game Base and select the player from Friends, search for them, or select a party member.
- Open the player’s profile and select … (More) > Block.
Unblock a player
- Open Game Base settings and select Blocked Players.
- Choose Unblock beside the player.
Unblocking does not automatically restore the person to your Friends list. If you want to be friends again, send a new friend request. PlayStation also notes that privacy settings can limit who may send requests or messages; check your console’s current privacy controls for the available options and labels.
