To add a game to Aurora on a modded Xbox 360, copy its complete extracted game folder to the console, configure Aurora to scan that folder, and run a scan. For most extracted games, the folder should contain default.xex; a common destination is HDD1:Games.
This guide covers FTP, USB, disc installation, GOD/XBLA content, and ConnectX. Use game files you legally own and are permitted to copy.

What Aurora can scan
Aurora does not automatically find games anywhere on the hard drive. You must add the relevant folder under Settings → Content → Manage Paths, choose the appropriate content type, and set a scan depth that reaches the title folder. The exact folder can be on the internal hard drive, a USB device, or a ConnectX network share.
For an extracted Xbox 360 game, use the folder structure produced by extracting the disc image or archive. The game folder must include default.xex. An ISO file by itself is not an Aurora game folder and must be extracted first. See the ConnectX documentation for the same format requirement in network-share setups.

Method 1: Copy an extracted game over FTP
- Connect the Xbox 360 and computer to the same network.
- Open Aurora and find the console’s IP address. The location can vary by build or skin, so use Aurora’s network information screen.
- Open an FTP client on the computer and connect to that IP address.
- Sign in with the FTP credentials configured on your console. Do not assume that a username and password such as
xbox/xboxis universal; current installations can differ. - Browse to
HDD1:Games. Create the folder if necessary. - Upload the complete extracted game folder, including
default.xexand all of its subfolders and files. - Wait for the transfer to finish before disconnecting. For troubleshooting, first try transferring one small file and confirm that it appears on the console.
FTP transfers can take a long time for large games. An interrupted upload may leave a folder that looks present in File Manager but cannot launch correctly.
Method 2: Copy the game with a USB drive
- Copy the complete extracted game folder to a USB drive supported by your Xbox 360 setup.
- Connect the USB drive to the console.
- Open Aurora’s File Manager.
- Locate the game folder on the USB drive.
- Copy it to
HDD1:Games, or to another folder you intend to scan. - Confirm that the destination contains the game folder and that
default.xexis present inside it.
The destination does not have to be HDD1:Games; it is simply a common location. Aurora can scan any accessible folder that you add to Manage Paths.
Tell Aurora where the games are
- Press Start to open Settings.
- Open Content.
- Select Manage Paths.
- Add the folder that contains the games, such as
HDD1:Games. - Select the content type appropriate to the folder.
- Set the scan depth so Aurora reaches the level where the title folders are stored.
- Confirm the change. In Aurora, A generally confirms or launches and B goes back.
After changing a path, run Aurora’s scan or rescan operation. Aurora documentation and different builds may label this command Scan, Scan Now, or simply a rescan, so the exact menu wording may differ. The important steps are adding the correct path in Settings → Content → Manage Paths and then scanning it.

Adding marketplace, GOD, and XBLA content
Games installed in Xbox 360 marketplace or GOD-style content layouts may not be stored as one plainly named folder under Games. A commonly reported hierarchy is:
Content 000000000000000
On an internal hard drive, the equivalent may be:
Hdd1:Content 000000000000000
Add the relevant content directory in Manage Paths, choose the matching content type, and set the scan depth to reach the actual title directories. Do not assume one scan-depth number works for every GOD or XBLA layout; inspect the folder hierarchy and adjust the depth accordingly.
If the same title is available both in a custom extracted-game folder and under the broader Content hierarchy, scanning both locations can create duplicate entries. Remove or narrow one of the overlapping paths if that happens.
Installing an original disc with Disc to GOD
The retrieved Aurora guide identifies Disc to GOD as a utility for copying an original game disc to the hard drive, with HDD1 listed as the destination. The exact submenu location and availability can differ between Aurora distributions, so do not rely on one universal menu path. After installation, add the resulting content location to Aurora’s scan paths if it does not appear automatically, then rescan.
Using ConnectX instead of copying games to the console
ConnectX lets Aurora access extracted game folders stored on a Windows PC. The PC share must contain extracted folders, not ISO files.
- Enable the ConnectX plugin under Settings → Modules.
- Configure the PC share according to the ConnectX setup requirements.
- Reboot the console after changing the ConnectX settings.
- Open Aurora’s File Manager and verify that the share appears as
ConnectX:. - Go to Settings → Content → Manage Paths and add the appropriate
ConnectX:folder. - Set the content type and scan depth, then run a scan.
ConnectX-specific failures can result from Windows Firewall rules, an incorrect password, an account with no password, or an incorrectly entered computer name. The ConnectX documentation says the computer name must be entered in all capital letters. See the ConnectX setup documentation for the required configuration details.

1. Check the scan path
Open Settings → Content → Manage Paths and verify the device and directory. A game can be copied successfully yet remain invisible because Aurora is scanning a different folder.
2. Increase the scan depth
If the path is correct but the title is nested inside additional directories, increase the number of subfolders Aurora scans. The correct value depends on the layout; a custom Games folder and the Content 000000000000000 hierarchy may require different depths.

3. Check the content type
Manage Paths requires a content type. If a folder containing games is classified incorrectly, Aurora may not create the expected library entries.
4. Verify the extracted folder
Open the copied folder in File Manager and confirm that default.xex exists. An ISO file, an incomplete extraction, or a folder missing files is not a valid extracted-game installation.
5. Check for an incomplete FTP transfer
Compare the source and destination contents, retry the upload, and test with a small file if you suspect a write or permission problem. Do not disconnect while the FTP client is still transferring files.
6. Separate detection from metadata
A game can be correctly detected even when its cover, synopsis, or marketplace rating is missing. Aurora attributes missing metadata primarily to network access problems, including router firewall blocking and DashLaunch’s livestrong setting being enabled. Metadata problems do not by themselves prove that the game path is wrong.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems7. Do not install a Title Update just to make a game appear
Title Updates are separate from game detection. They may affect compatibility or game behavior, but every game does not need a Title Update before Aurora can list it.
Quick checklist
- The game is an extracted folder, not an ISO.
default.xexis present in the game folder.- The complete folder was copied to the console or is available through ConnectX.
- Aurora is scanning the correct device and directory.
- The content type matches the folder’s contents.
- The scan depth reaches the title folder.
- A scan or rescan was run after the path was added.
- Duplicate paths are not causing duplicate entries.
Sources and version notes
Aurora’s labels and utility locations can vary by build, skin, and distribution. The documented path-management route is Settings → Content → Manage Paths; older guides may describe different scan-menu locations. Aurora’s Settings → About screen can display component-version information, but the supplied documentation does not establish one universal current Aurora version number.
