Xbox Play Anywhere lets you buy one eligible digital game and play it on Xbox consoles, Windows PC, and supported Windows 11 gaming handhelds without buying a second copy. To use it, confirm the game has the official Xbox Play Anywhere badge, sign in on both devices with the Microsoft/Xbox account that owns it, then install it from My games & apps > Ready to install on Xbox or My Library in the Xbox PC app.
What you need before using Xbox Play Anywhere
- An eligible game with the official Xbox Play Anywhere badge. An Xbox label, Xbox Game Pass listing, or appearance in the Xbox PC app is not enough. Check the game’s store listing or the official Xbox Play Anywhere page.
- A digital purchase made through the Xbox Store, Windows Store, or a participating retailer’s digital code. A physical Xbox disc does not provide the PC version.
- The same Xbox/Microsoft account signed in on the console and PC.
- An Xbox console with its latest system update.
- A Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC. The current Xbox PC app requirement is Windows 10/11, version 22H2 or higher.
The Xbox PC app also lists 150 MB of app storage and a 720p display requirement, while each game has its own CPU, GPU, memory, storage, and operating-system requirements. Check the individual game’s requirements before installing it. PCs in Windows S mode may need to leave S mode to play games through the Xbox PC app. See Microsoft’s current Xbox PC app requirements.
How to install a Play Anywhere game on Xbox
- Sign in to the Xbox console with the Xbox/Microsoft account that owns the digital game.
- Open My games & apps.
- Open Ready to install.
- Select the eligible game and choose the installation option.
After installation, launch the game normally. If it is missing from Ready to install, verify the account, digital ownership, and Play Anywhere badge before troubleshooting anything else.
How to install a Play Anywhere game on Windows PC
- Install and launch the Xbox PC app.
- Sign in with the Xbox/Microsoft account that owns the game.
- Open My Library.
- Select the Play Anywhere game and choose Install, or launch it if it is already installed.
The Xbox PC app can also display Game Pass titles and games installed from other PC storefronts. That library aggregation does not mean every listed title supports Xbox Play Anywhere; the official badge remains the eligibility test.

How saves, achievements, and DLC work
Play Anywhere synchronizes supported game saves through Xbox, so you can continue on another Xbox console, Windows 10/11 PC, or supported handheld after signing in to the same account. It also synchronizes achievements and add-ons.
- Saves: Progress can follow you between supported devices.
- Achievements: Console and PC use one shared achievement set. Playing on both platforms does not award a second copy of the same achievements.
- Gamerscore: The score is shared rather than duplicated between console and PC versions.
- Additional content: Qualifying game add-ons, Season Passes, consumables, and in-game unlocks carry across supported devices when bought or earned for a Play Anywhere game you own.
Can you play on Xbox and PC at the same time?
No. The same game cannot be signed in simultaneously on an Xbox console, Windows PC, and supported handheld. Xbox permits the game to be signed in on only one of these devices at a time. Play Anywhere is designed for moving your play session between devices, not for using one owned copy for simultaneous play.

What Xbox Play Anywhere does not include
- Physical-disc ownership: A disc license does not unlock the PC version.
- Every Xbox game: Only games carrying the Play Anywhere badge qualify.
- A separate subscription or activation code: Play Anywhere is a digital licensing feature, not a subscription, command, or command-line function.
- Automatic removal of PC requirements: A Play Anywhere game can still require a capable gaming PC and may have separate PC installation requirements.
- A second achievement list: The supported console and PC versions share achievements and Gamerscore.

- Check the account. Sign out and back in with the account that purchased or redeemed the game. Family or secondary accounts may not own the license.
- Check the badge. Confirm that the game’s store listing specifically shows the Xbox Play Anywhere badge.
- Check the purchase type. A physical disc does not qualify. Confirm that the purchase was digital or that the retailer code was a participating digital code.
- Check the location. On Xbox, look under My games & apps > Ready to install. On PC, open the Xbox PC app and check My Library.
- Check Windows. The current Xbox PC app requirement is Windows 10/11 version 22H2 or higher. Older references to the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition are outdated as a current app requirement.
- Check game-specific requirements. Even if the license is valid, insufficient hardware, storage, or an unsupported configuration can prevent installation or play.
