You can add your Epic Games copy of GTA V to Steam using + ADD A GAME… → Add a Non-Steam Game…. This creates a Steam library shortcut; it does not transfer your purchase or make the game a Steam-owned copy. Keep Epic Games Launcher installed and signed in, because GTA V may rely on it for launch authorization.
How to add GTA V from Epic to Steam
- Install GTA V through Epic if needed. Open Epic Games Launcher, go to Library, select GTA V, choose an installation directory, and click Install. Epic’s instructions say to launch the game from your Epic library after installation: Epic Games installation instructions.
- Open Steam and click + ADD A GAME… at the bottom-left of the client.
- Choose Add a Non-Steam Game… and follow Steam’s prompts to add the entry. Steam’s support instructions say to launch the added entry from your Steam library: Steam Support: Add a Non-Steam Game.
- Find GTA V in your Steam library and launch the added entry. Keep Epic Games Launcher available and signed in so it can handle any required authorization.
What the Steam entry does—and does not do
The entry is a shortcut in your Steam library. It does not move the game or license from Epic, activate a Steam key, or grant Steam ownership. Epic states that game ownership does not transfer between platforms: Epic Games account and ownership information.

Steam’s general instructions do not identify a GTA V-specific executable or guarantee that launching a selected game executable directly will preserve Epic’s authorization. The non-Steam-game feature adds a library entry; use Epic’s normal launcher authorization path rather than assuming a direct executable launch will work for every setup.

Check which GTA V edition is in your Epic library
Epic currently lists Grand Theft Auto V Legacy and Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced. Epic says existing GTA V owners receive Enhanced automatically, and an Enhanced purchase also includes Legacy. If your library or troubleshooting steps appear to refer to a different version, check which edition is listed in your Epic library first: Epic Games: GTA V editions.

Fix Epic or Rockstar authorization problems
If launch stalls with Epic’s message “Authorization Pending – Awaiting authorization from the Epic Games Launcher,” Epic says to verify account linking and authorization through Epic Games Launcher. The message notes that authorization can take up to five minutes; if it persists, check that your Epic and Rockstar accounts are linked correctly.
If the message disappears but the game still will not launch, Epic’s support article suggests exiting Epic Games Launcher, clearing its cache, switching to a public DNS, running the launcher as administrator, and relaunching. These are troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed fixes. See Epic Games Support: Rockstar authorization troubleshooting.
