The console version supports Featured Servers, Realms, and multiplayer invitations through its standard menus. To join an unlisted Bedrock server using an address and port, you need an unofficial workaround such as a LAN connector app or a custom-DNS server browser.
The most important compatibility rule is that the destination must support Minecraft Bedrock Edition. A Java-only server will not work on PS5 unless its administrator has configured a Bedrock bridge and supplied the correct Bedrock connection details.

Does Minecraft on PS5 have an Add Server button?
Not for entering an arbitrary custom server address. Minecraft’s general Bedrock instructions describe an Add Server button, but those instructions apply across supported Bedrock platforms and should not be treated as a PS5-specific menu guide. On the normal retail PS5 interface, you may see the Servers tab without seeing fields for a custom address and port.
This is why guides that tell every player to scroll to the bottom of the Servers tab can be misleading. The official server directory and platform information distinguish console access to Featured Servers and Realms from the custom-server entry available on some PC and mobile versions. See Minecraft’s general server guide and its official server directory.

How to join a Featured Server on PS5
Featured Servers are the simplest official option when you want public multiplayer without entering an IP address.
- Launch Minecraft on your PS5.
- Select Play.
- Open the Servers tab.
- Choose one of the listed Featured or Partner Servers.
- Select Join Server.
- Accept any displayed warnings or terms.
- Allow required resource packs to download.
You should arrive in the server’s lobby or world. This process only connects you to servers displayed in Minecraft’s built-in list; it does not let you enter a private server’s address.
Before joining: link your Microsoft account
Featured Servers, Realms, and cross-platform multiplayer require a Microsoft account linked to your PlayStation Network account.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Start Minecraft and choose Sign in with a Microsoft account on the title screen.
- Scan the QR code or visit microsoft.com/link.
- Enter the code shown by Minecraft.
- Complete the sign-in process.
Only one Microsoft account can be linked to a PSN account at a time. If multiplayer features are missing, check the account-linking guidance in the official PlayStation Bedrock FAQ.
How to join a Minecraft Realm on PS5
A Realm is the cleanest official alternative when you want a private, persistent Bedrock world rather than a public community server. The owner invites you by Microsoft gamertag or invitation link, and the Realm remains available even when its owner is offline.

- Open Minecraft → Play.
- Open the Friends or Realms area.
- Select the invited Realm.

Realms are private, invitation-based worlds—not a way to browse or add arbitrary public servers. They also have fewer administration features than a dedicated server. Minecraft’s official Realms page lists current plan details and availability.
How to join a friend’s Bedrock world
For a normal multiplayer world, the host must keep the world open while you play.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Both players sign in with Microsoft accounts.
- The host opens the Bedrock world.
- The host enables multiplayer in the world settings.
- The host invites you through Minecraft’s Friends menu or the Microsoft/Xbox friends system.
- Accept the invitation and join the world.
This differs from a Realm: a friend-hosted world generally closes when the host leaves, while an invited Realm remains online independently.
How to join an unlisted custom Bedrock server on PS5
Because PS5 lacks the ordinary custom-server input screen, an unlisted server requires an unofficial connection method. These approaches are not Mojang or PlayStation features, and their compatibility can change after Minecraft, router, app, or server updates.
Option 1: use a LAN connector or proxy app
Apps such as BedrockTogether and similar tools can sometimes advertise a custom Bedrock server as a local LAN game that the PS5 can see.
- Install a compatible connector app on a phone or tablet.
- Connect the mobile device and PS5 to the same local network.
- Enter the server address and port in the app.
- Start the connection or LAN broadcast.
- On PS5, open Minecraft → Play → Friends.
- Look for the advertised LAN game and join it.
The app may need to remain open, and the mobile device usually needs to stay on the same network during play. Review the app’s current privacy policy and permissions before entering a server address. Do not assume that a particular connector works on every PS5, router, region, or Minecraft version.

- Traverse a lush, dynamic world that’s rich in resources and different in each playthrough.

- Includes the Minecraft Legends base game and the Deluxe Skin pack, featuring 6 additional in-game skins: 1 hero, 4 mounts, and an additional mount skin when it becomes available.
Option 2: use a custom-DNS server browser
Some community DNS services alter the Featured Server flow to expose a custom-server menu. This changes the PS5’s DNS behavior and is not an official Minecraft feature.
Do not copy an old DNS address from a generic guide and assume it is still active. Services can shut down, change addresses, stop working after updates, or create privacy and availability concerns. Minecraft’s own connectivity guidance recommends removing custom DNS settings when diagnosing connection problems.
Check server compatibility before troubleshooting PS5
Confirm these details with the server administrator:
- Edition: The server accepts Bedrock players. A Java-only server will not work directly.
- Address and port: Use the exact values supplied by the administrator. Bedrock commonly uses UDP port 19132, but that is not universal.
- Version: The server supports your installed Minecraft version.
- Status: The server is online and accepting new connections.
- Access rules: You are not blocked by a whitelist, capacity limit, or account restriction.
- Cross-play setup: A Java server has a properly configured Bedrock bridge, such as Geyser, and a separate Bedrock endpoint if required.
- Content: Required resource packs or add-ons are available and permitted.
A Java address copied into a PS5 workaround may fail even when Java players can connect successfully. “Minecraft server” alone is not enough information; you need to know which edition and connection endpoint it supports.

Why a custom server does not appear on PS5
- The connector app is not actively broadcasting a LAN session.
- The phone and PS5 are on different Wi-Fi networks.
- The router isolates wireless clients or blocks local discovery.
- The connector app lacks local-network permission.
- The server is offline, full, outdated, or using the wrong address or port.
- The server supports Java only.
- The server is protected by a whitelist.
- Minecraft has updated and invalidated the workaround.
- A custom-DNS service is unavailable or has changed.
- Microsoft/Xbox privacy settings block multiplayer.
- PlayStation Plus is inactive.
- The PS5 is running the wrong Minecraft installation or a preview build.
Recovery steps when a workaround fails
- Confirm the address and port with the server administrator.
- Confirm that the server accepts Bedrock connections.
- If possible, test the server from Bedrock Windows or mobile.
- Restart Minecraft on PS5.
- Restart the phone, PS5, and router.
- Put both devices on the same non-guest network.
- Disable VPNs, guest Wi-Fi, and client isolation.
- Temporarily return the PS5 to automatic or default DNS.
- Check Microsoft account multiplayer and clubs permissions.
- Check PlayStation Plus status.
- Check whether Minecraft recently updated.
- Ask the server owner to verify the Bedrock port, whitelist, capacity, and cross-play bridge.
- If the workaround remains unreliable, use a Realm or Featured Server instead.
You normally do not need to port-forward your PS5 to join someone else’s server. Port forwarding is generally a hosting task, not a requirement for an ordinary player connecting to a remote server.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do you need PlayStation Plus?
PlayStation Plus is generally required for online multiplayer on console, including multiplayer with friends and other online features. It is separate from any Minecraft Realms subscription. Buying a Realm does not automatically include PlayStation Plus. Check Sony and Minecraft account requirements if multiplayer is unavailable; Minecraft also documents multiplayer troubleshooting in its official connectivity guide.

- Meet one of the biggest legends of the Minecraft universe and the higher world you have never seen before.
- Make alliances with new friends and famous mobs and take the initiative in spectacular battles against the cloudy Piglin and defend the higher world.
- Go through a rich, dynamic world rich in resources and changes in every transition.
- Challenge your friends or join forces to defend your village in fierce battles and lead your units in destroying enemy sediments.
- Includes the basic Minecraft Legends game and Deluxe Skin Pack with six extra skins in the game: one hero, four mounts and an extra shank skin as soon as it is available.
Which option is best?
| What you want | Best choice | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| A public server with immediate access | Featured Server | You can only choose from Minecraft’s listed partners. |
| A small private world that stays online | Realm | Monthly cost and player limits; fewer administration features. |
| A temporary session with friends | Friend-hosted Bedrock world | The host usually needs to remain online. |
| An arbitrary Bedrock server address | Connector app or DNS workaround | Unofficial, update-sensitive, and not guaranteed. |
| Advanced files, settings, backups, or add-ons | Third-party or self-hosted Bedrock server | It still does not add a native PS5 IP-entry field. |
If your only goal is to join a private group on PS5, a Realm is usually the least complicated official solution. If you specifically have an arbitrary IP, verify Bedrock compatibility first, then decide whether an unofficial workaround is worth its maintenance and privacy trade-offs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why don’t I see Add Server on Minecraft PS5?
The standard PS5 version does not normally expose a native field for entering an arbitrary custom server address. The general Bedrock guide is not PS5-specific.
Can PS5 join a PC Minecraft server?
Yes, if the server accepts Bedrock players. A Java-only server is not directly compatible; it needs a properly configured Bedrock bridge and endpoint.
Can I add an Aternos, Shockbyte, or BisectHosting server on PS5?
Hosting provider does not change the PS5 interface limitation. The server must support Bedrock, and you may still need an unofficial connector or DNS workaround.
Is changing DNS safe for joining a server?
Custom DNS is unofficial and can introduce privacy, trust, availability, and troubleshooting concerns. Use only a provider you trust, and restore automatic DNS if connectivity problems begin.
Why does the server appear on my phone but not my PS5?
The devices may be on different networks, local discovery may be blocked, the connector may not be broadcasting, or the server may be incompatible with Bedrock. Disable guest Wi-Fi and client isolation, then restart the app and Minecraft.
The Bottom Line
PS5 does not normally let you enter a custom Minecraft server IP directly. Use Servers for Featured Servers, Realms for an official private persistent world, or a friend invitation for a hosted Bedrock world. For an arbitrary address, confirm Bedrock support and use an unofficial workaround only with the understanding that it may be unreliable.
