There is no universal setting that makes every horror-game chase easier to track. Find the accessibility, camera or video settings, change one option at a time, then replay a familiar chase and check whether you can keep both the pursuer and your escape route in view. Menu names, available controls and when you can change them vary by game, platform and version.
Use a short, repeatable settings check
- Open the relevant menu. Look under Accessibility, Camera, Video or Gameplay; the exact location and labels depend on the game.
- Look for a preset, but inspect what it changes. Some games offer accessibility presets that alter several recommended options at once. Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 manual describes presets and suggests that players can adjust additional visibility or camera settings manually. Treat a preset as a starting point, not a guaranteed fit.
- Choose one setting to test. Changing several controls together makes it harder to tell which one helped or made the scene less readable.
- Replay the same chase, if possible. Notice whether you can keep the pursuer, the route ahead and nearby hazards in view. Keep the change only if it works better for you.
Microsoft’s Xbox Accessibility Guideline 117 identifies field of view, camera movement, sensitivity and other visual settings related to camera or screen movement as settings players should be able to customize. That guidance identifies useful controls to look for; it does not establish a best value or guarantee better chase performance.
Test camera movement, blur and field of view separately
Camera shake, bob and movement
Look for controls such as screen shake, camera bob, wobble, stabilization or camera movement. If movement makes it difficult to keep the pursuer or route in view, reduce it or turn it off where the game allows, then replay the same sequence. Valve’s Steamworks accessibility documentation uses “Camera Comfort” for examples including shake and bob; Xbox guidance also identifies camera movement and sensitivity. These are recognized settings, not proof that reducing them helps every player.
Some games provide a specific control: Electronic Arts documents camera shake among the player-choice options for Dead Space. If your game offers only an on/off toggle, compare both states in the same chase rather than assuming one is preferable.

Motion blur
Test motion blur as its own change. Turning it down or off alters how motion appears, but the available evidence does not establish a universally best choice. Compare the same chase with the option changed and keep whichever result makes the scene easier for you to read. Valve lists motion blur among camera-comfort examples. Konami’s Silent Hill f patch 1.10 notes say that the update added a Motion Blur option, illustrating that settings can also depend on the game’s version.
Field of view
If adjustable field of view (FOV) is available, change it in small steps and check whether the added surrounding view helps you track the route and pursuer. A wider view may show more of the scene, but the sources do not support a universal ideal value or a guaranteed chase advantage. Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle accessibility guide documents adjustable FOV as one example; not every horror game offers it.

When the problem is difficulty or audio, check those options too
Difficulty and assists
If repeated failure is the main problem, a difficulty or assist option may reduce pressure without changing the camera. Check the game’s manual or current patch notes before relying on a particular rule: options may unlock after a certain event or be unavailable to change mid-playthrough. For example, Konami’s Silent Hill f patch notes say Casual action difficulty becomes selectable after multiple game overs for eligible players. Konami’s Silent Hill 2 support page says combat difficulty can be changed later, but puzzle difficulty cannot be changed during a playthrough.
Audio cues
If you have trouble locating cues, check whether the game offers separate volume controls or spatial audio. PlayStation’s Silent Hill f listing for the UK documents individual volume controls and 3D audio. Those are features of that listing’s game, not options to expect in every title, and adjusting them cannot guarantee that a particular cue will be easier to identify.

Make the result specific to your game
Compare each option by what it changes, how finely it can be adjusted, and when it can be changed. A camera toggle, a gradual FOV slider, a visibility option, an audio control and a difficulty setting address different problems; test only the category that matches what is getting in your way. Record or remember changes that help so you can restore them if another area becomes harder to read.
Player discussions can suggest names to search for—such as FOV, motion blur, camera shake or head bob—but a question about those controls is not evidence that a particular game includes them. Verify availability in the game’s own menus or official documentation.
