To air dribble in Rocket League, guide the ball up the side wall, make a controlled setup touch, jump off the wall, and follow the ball in the air with small boost adjustments. Start by learning basic aerial control, then practice the wall-to-air sequence in Free Play or a repeatable Custom Training scenario. The goal at first is not a long carry: it is making a touch you can follow.
What makes a wall-to-air dribble work?
A wall-to-air attempt has three linked stages: set up the ball on the wall, touch it into a reachable path, then stay close enough in the air to make follow-up touches. A creator tutorial demonstrates this sequence; the exact speed, angle, and timing depend on the play rather than following a universal formula. Watch the wall-to-air tutorial.
For early attempts, prioritize a followable first touch over height or speed. If the ball travels beyond your car, catching up becomes harder; if the setup touch sends it in an unhelpful direction, the attempt may end before the aerial phase. These are practical coaching cues, not official performance thresholds.
Build the aerial control first
Rocket League recommends Aerial Training and player-made Custom Training as ways to develop air and ball control. Practice taking off, steering toward a target, and returning the car to a useful orientation before adding a moving ball and wall setup. Rocket League’s aerial-practice feature describes Aerial Training as an option for players of all skill levels.

How to air dribble off the wall
- Approach the ball under control. In Free Play, follow a ball rolling up the side wall. Stay close enough to make a deliberate setup touch instead of hitting it away at full speed.
- Make a followable first touch. Touch the ball so it moves into a path you can chase as you leave the wall. For a first attempt, focus on direction and proximity rather than trying to send the ball as high as possible.
- Jump off the wall and turn toward the ball. After the setup touch, jump and orient your car toward the ball. The wall-to-air tutorial demonstrates the timing and sequence; there is no single exact angle that fits every approach.
- Use boost in small adjustments. Boost to close the gap, then tap or feather it to make corrections and stay near the ball. Epic Games Player Support advises, “Tap or feather your Boost in the air to maintain altitude efficiently.” Holding Jump and Boost together is described by support as the quickest way to gain aerial altitude, but that does not make continuous full boost the only way to control an air dribble. - Work toward another touch. Keep the car close enough to the ball to make a follow-up touch, adjusting your position and boost as needed. Treat each attempt as practice in setting up and following the ball, not as a test of how long you can carry it.
Where to practice: Free Play or Custom Training?

Use Free Play when you want to create and reset your own wall setup. Choose Custom Training when you want a repeatable scenario. Both are documented practice routes; the right choice depends on whether you need flexible ball control or a consistent starting situation.
Check your controls before drilling
Free Play’s ball-control actions may not be assigned as you expect. Open Settings and check the relevant button assignments before building a routine around a particular control. Rocket League notes that default assignments can clash with existing controls, and Epic says almost any button can be rebound in Controls settings. The exact controller layout varies by player, so the steps above do not assume one.

Should you use air roll?
Air roll is not established as mandatory for every air dribble. Epic’s support guidance discusses air roll in connection with landing cleanly, while its aerial tips support boost control; neither prescribes a specific air-roll pattern for air dribbling. Learn your own air-control bindings and use them when they help you orient the car, rather than treating one binding or rotation pattern as required.
