Back up NBA 2K25 using the cloud-save system for the platform account you play on, then confirm the latest backup is present. That can help restore supported save data; it cannot keep MyCAREER or MyTEAM available after 2K retires the game’s online services on December 31, 2026. Those modes become unavailable starting January 1, 2027.
What happens to NBA 2K25 on December 31, 2026?
NBA 2K Support’s NBA 2K25: Server Sunset notice, published September 3, 2026 and updated October 2, 2026, sets December 31, 2026 as the scheduled last day of online services. From January 1, 2027, MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available, VC can no longer be earned, and online and multiplayer features will be inaccessible.

A backup is for recovering save data under the platform’s rules, not for preserving access to a mode that depends on 2K’s servers. NBA 2K Support says existing owners will still be able to redownload the game and play offline modes. Its listed modes include Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA; features that require 2K servers, such as Online Leagues and community sharing, will not work.
The 2K Online Services Status page also lists the NBA 2K25 service retirement date and identifies offline modes. The game is scheduled to stop being available for purchase on October 30, 2026, but existing owners can redownload it.

How do I back up my NBA 2K25 save?
2K’s Restoring Saves from the Cloud guide says saves are associated with the platform account used to play—not a 2K, NBA 2K, or SHiFT account. An internet connection is generally needed. Follow the steps for your platform, use the same platform account, and check the displayed backup or sync status before the service retirement. Menu names can change as platform software is updated.

Can I keep a separate copy of my PC save?
For Steam, 2K’s NBA 2K: Missing MyPLAYER guide describes a local recovery path. It says MyCAREER files use names such as MyCAREER0000, with numbers varying by slot, and gives this general folder path:

If you can access those files, retain a separate copy in a location you control. 2K’s instructions say to place backed-up MyCAREER files in the remote folder, then fully restart Steam and NBA 2K. This is a Steam recovery procedure; it is not a universal console USB-export method. 2K’s guidance does not establish a separate manual export/import process for every console version.
How do I restore a missing MyPLAYER?
First use the platform’s own cloud-save restore process and sign in with the same platform account that created the save. If you play on Steam and have an accessible local copy, 2K’s missing-player instructions describe restoring the MyCAREER files to the game’s Steam userdata remote folder and restarting Steam and NBA 2K. The exact restore controls differ by platform; use 2K’s cloud-save guide for the relevant system.

Restoring a file does not guarantee that every mode will remain playable. In particular, 2K says MyCAREER will no longer be available after the online-service retirement, even if a save copy exists.

- It may help recover supported save data. Cloud or local recovery remains subject to the platform’s account, storage, and restore rules.
- It follows the platform account. 2K says the save is tied to that account, not a 2K, NBA 2K, or SHiFT account; a backup does not transfer access rights between platform accounts.
- It cannot keep 2K’s servers online. Copying or restoring a save, or retaining VC, will not preserve access to MyCAREER or MyTEAM after those server-dependent modes end.
- It does not preserve every online feature. Multiplayer, Online Leagues, community sharing, and other server-connected features will be unavailable after retirement.
What can I still play after the shutdown?
For owners who retain or redownload NBA 2K25, 2K lists Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA as offline modes that remain playable. Their server-dependent features will not be available.
