To ban a player on a Space Engineers dedicated server, open the Dedicated Server Manager, select your world, then go to Server Settings > Users > Banned. Add the player from the friends or player-history selector, save the configuration, and restart the server if prompted. If the player is not listed, enter the account’s correct 64-bit Steam ID instead.

You need administrator rights to manage this list. A player remains blocked while their account is in Banned; removing that account from the list is how you unban it.

What you need before banning someone
Have access to the server’s Dedicated Server Manager and administrator permission for the world you administer. The manager is the authoritative place to edit the server’s user lists, including Admins, Banned and Reserved slots.
- Self-hosted PC server: you should be able to open the Dedicated Server Manager installed with your server tools.
- Rented server: open the provider’s current control panel and launch the server-management page or application that exposes the same user controls. Portal names and locations vary by provider.
- Player identification: the player’s selectable profile, or their 64-bit Steam ID if the profile is missing.
- Restart access: some configuration changes are applied only after the server restarts. Keep a maintenance window in mind if the manager requests one.
Keen Software House defines a Steam ID as the unique numerical identifier for a Steam account. For an account that cannot be selected from the manager, the dedicated-server guide says you can find this ID in the game log after launching the game while logged in.

How to ban a player in Dedicated Server Manager
- Open the Dedicated Server Manager. Select the world or server instance you administer. Make sure you are editing the intended world; each world has its own configuration.
- Open Server Settings. Do not confuse the server’s general settings with a game-client settings screen. User permissions and bans are maintained in the server manager.
- Open Users. This section contains the server’s user lists, including administrator, banned and reserved-slot entries.
- Select Banned. Choose the Banned users list. This is the persistent account block used by the dedicated server.
- Add the player. Use the selector to search the world’s player history or your friends list, select the correct account and add it to the banned list. Check the displayed name carefully if several accounts have similar names.
- Save the configuration. Apply or save the server settings in the manager. If it reports that a restart is required, stop and start the server through the manager rather than assuming the change is active immediately.
- Verify the entry. Reopen Server Settings > Users > Banned and confirm that the account appears there before the next connection attempt.
A ban added this way is not a temporary chat kick. It remains in the server’s Banned list until an administrator removes it, so record why the account was banned if several people moderate the world.
When the player does not appear in the selector
Find the account’s 64-bit Steam ID
Names can change, and a player who has not appeared in the relevant history may not be available in the picker. In that case, obtain the account’s 64-bit Steam ID. Launch the game while logged in to the account whose identifier you need, then inspect the game log. The dedicated-server documentation identifies the Steam ID as the unique numerical account identifier and specifies the log as a way to find it.

Add the ID to the banned list
- Return to the server’s Dedicated Server Manager.
- Open Server Settings > Users > Banned.
- Choose the option to add a user manually, if the manager presents one, and enter the complete 64-bit Steam ID.
- Save, perform the requested restart, and verify that the resulting entry corresponds to the intended account.
If the manager rejects the value, check for leading or trailing spaces, confirm that you copied the entire number and make sure you are editing the correct world. Do not substitute a name when the field requires a numerical Steam ID.

Administrator permissions and the in-game menu
Banning requires administrator access. Keen Software House support states that “Players with a rank higher than None/Blank have admin rights and can access the Admin Tools (Alt+F10) menu.” An administrator can open that menu in the game client with Alt+F10.
To grant or remove that permission, use the manager’s Server Settings > Users > Admins list. Keep this list limited to trusted moderators: an administrator can alter world settings and user access, not just handle one ban. Removing a person from Admins removes their administrative permission; it does not itself remove any entry from Banned.

Keen’s Assign Admin guidance also says that once a player is promoted, an admin can use the admin menu directly from the game client. Use that menu for in-game administration, but maintain the actual account ban in the server manager’s Banned list so the configuration is visible to the server’s moderators.
How to confirm that the ban is working
- Open the manager again after saving and check Server Settings > Users > Banned.
- Confirm the account is listed by the expected name or Steam ID.
- If a restart was requested, complete it and wait until the server reports that it is running.
- Check the next connection attempt or the server log for the account’s rejection. Do not remove the entry merely because the player is no longer online.
If the account can still join, first verify that the player is using the same Steam account you banned. A changed display name is not evidence of a different account; compare the 64-bit Steam ID. Then confirm you edited the world and server instance that the player is actually entering, rather than another saved world on the same machine.

How to unban a player
Unbanning reverses the same configuration change:
- Open the world in Dedicated Server Manager.
- Go to Server Settings > Users > Banned.
- Select the account you want to restore and remove it from the list.
- Save the settings and restart if the manager requires it.
- Check the list again to ensure the account is no longer present.
Removing a ban does not grant administrator rights. If the player also appears in Admins, review that separate list and remove the admin entry if appropriate.
PC and Xbox server differences
The user-management concept is the same, but the hosting route differs. Keen’s official dedicated-server information identifies GTX Gaming as the official host for the PC version and Nitrado as the official host for the Xbox version. A rented host may put the Dedicated Server Manager controls behind its own dashboard, and the exact labels can change as that dashboard is updated.

If a rented panel does not expose a Banned list, contact that provider’s support and ask specifically how to edit the Space Engineers dedicated-server user configuration. Do not assume that a client-side kick or an Xbox profile block changes the dedicated server’s account list.
Self-hosting versus rented hosting for bans
The important distinction is control, not the act of selecting Banned. Both arrangements need an administrator-level account and a way to save and apply the world’s user configuration.

Troubleshooting common ban problems
The Banned list is missing
Confirm that you opened Server Settings for the world rather than a general account or client screen, then open Users. Keen’s documentation places the Banned list alongside Admins and Reserved slots. If you are using a rented host, look for a server-configuration or user-management page rather than a player list in the game client.

Your account may have no administrator rank. An account with a rank of None or Blank does not have the admin rights needed for Admin Tools. Ask an existing administrator to add you in Server Settings > Users > Admins, or have that administrator perform the ban. Do not share an administrator account to work around the restriction.
The player is not in friends or history
Use the complete 64-bit Steam ID from the game log after launching while logged in. Check the number character by character, then save and restart as required. If the account still cannot be added, verify that the provider’s panel supports manual ID entry and that you are editing the active world.
The player reconnects after the ban
Check three things in order: the account identifier, the selected world/server instance and the server restart status. A name match alone is insufficient because display names are not unique identifiers. If the entry is present but the player still connects, capture the connection’s account ID from the log and compare it with the banned value; the player may be using another Steam account.

The ban disappears after a restart
Reopen the manager after the restart and inspect Banned. If the entry is gone, the change was likely not saved to the active configuration, or the rented panel overwrote it during startup. Save through the provider’s documented workflow, wait for the panel to finish applying the change, and then restart once more.
You banned the wrong account
Stop the server or prevent further connections, remove the incorrect entry from Banned, save and restart if requested, then add the intended account using its verified 64-bit Steam ID. Review the entry after each change instead of relying on a similarly spelled display name.
Best practices for fair, recoverable moderation
- Record the Steam ID, date, moderator and reason for each ban in your private moderation notes.
- Use the account ID as the authoritative identity and treat names as labels that can change.
- Limit the Admins list to people who need it, and remove former moderators promptly.
- Tell moderators whether a restart is required on your particular host so one person does not assume a saved panel change is already active.
- Before removing a ban, verify that you are editing the same world in which the original ban was created.
- Keep a recovery contact or second trusted administrator available in case you lock yourself out of the manager.
Ban duration and what “permanent” means here
The documented control is an account entry in the Banned list; it does not describe a separate timer or expiration field. In practical terms, the ban remains in force until an administrator removes it and applies the configuration. If you need a temporary sanction, note an expiry time in your moderation records and remove the entry manually when that time arrives.
