Command reference
The community-documented command forms are below. In the server console, enter the command without a leading slash. In administrator chat, add / or @. The exact parameter separator is not consistent between published command lists: one uses spaces, while another describes forward slashes. Check the server’s current in-game help before relying on a separator that differs from the examples shown here.

Replace the bracketed items with real values; do not type the brackets. Durations are seconds. The default one-year value is 31,536,000 seconds.
Before you issue a punishment
Make sure you have the required authority
The commands must be run from the server console or by an account with administrator privileges in game. A normal player’s chat command will not gain authority merely by adding /. If the command is rejected, confirm that you are using the actual server console or that your SteamID has been granted admin rights.

Choose the right identifier
A SteamID is the safer choice because names can be changed, duplicated, or entered incorrectly. Use the player name only when the target is online and the name is unambiguous. For a player who is not connected, use the SteamID; community command references report that name-based targeting is intended for online players.
Record the decision
Before banning, note the SteamID, the time, the rule involved, and the evidence available to your staff. Put a short, factual reason in the command. This makes the server message understandable to the affected player and gives moderators a consistent record when an appeal is reviewed.
How to ban a player
1. Identify the player
Copy the player’s SteamID from your administration tools or an authoritative player listing. If you use a name, check that the matching player is currently online and that no other connected player has a confusingly similar name.
2. Enter the ban command
In the console, use the documented structure:

Because command references disagree about whether arguments are separated by spaces or forward slashes, use the separator accepted by your current server build and confirm it with the in-game help command if the server reports a syntax error.
3. Confirm the result
The console should report the ban. A user who attempts to connect should see the remaining time in seconds and the reason. Immediately run bans to verify that the intended SteamID appears in the current list. If the listed identity is wrong, do not guess at a file edit; use the proper unban command and then issue a corrected ban.

Understanding duration
Every documented duration is measured in seconds. Useful conversions include:

These conversions are arithmetic expressions of the seconds-based unit, not separate server options. The retrieved command documentation does not establish a special permanent-ban keyword, so do not assume that a particular value means “permanent” without checking your server’s current help.
How to unban a player
Use the SteamID, not the player name
The unban command requires the SteamID:
unban [SteamID]Console example:

/unban 76561198000000000If your server uses the alternate separator described by some command lists, follow the syntax shown by its current help output. A name is not a substitute for the SteamID in this command.
Verify that the restriction is gone
Run bans after the unban and check that the SteamID is no longer listed. Ask the player to reconnect only after the command succeeds. If the player still cannot join, check that the SteamID was copied exactly and that another restriction—such as a whitelist, a separate server ban, or a connection problem—is not responsible. The available documentation does not establish the internal format of Blacklist.dat, so do not manually edit that file based on guesses.

How to kick a player
A kick is the immediate, reversible option:

Unlike a ban, it does not add a lasting join restriction; the player may reconnect afterward unless another restriction applies. Use a kick for an active disruption that does not yet justify a timed ban, or when you need to remove someone while discussing the incident with your staff. If the same player returns and the violation continues, use the documented ban process rather than repeatedly kicking without a record.
Checking current bans
The bans command takes no arguments:
bansUse it to confirm that a ban was created, inspect the remaining entries before approving an appeal, and check that an unban removed the expected SteamID. Run it in the console without a prefix or in administrator chat with the appropriate prefix. The command list does not document a separate search or export option, so copy the relevant SteamID and reason into your moderation log if your staff needs a longer-term record.

To grant an account owner-level administrative rights, place this command in Commands.dat:
Owner <SteamID>Replace <SteamID> with the actual SteamID. Commands.dat contains commands that run each time the server starts, with one command per line. The owner entry is therefore persistent across restarts. Keep the file restricted to trusted operators: anyone with owner-level access can execute moderation commands and other administrative actions.

A third-party command list also describes an /owner <SteamID> console form and says it is saved to Commands.dat, but that behavior is not corroborated by the other retrieved documentation. Treat the file entry above as the established configuration method and verify any console shortcut against the current server help before using it.
Do not confuse administrative files
An Unturned server folder contains four named data files: Adminlist, Blacklist, Commands and Whitelist, each represented with a .dat extension in the server setup. Commands.dat is the startup-command file; it is not a documented, verified format for typing individual ban records. The retrieved documentation does not verify how Blacklist.dat stores bans, so use ban, unban, kick and bans rather than editing data-file contents by hand.

Syntax problems and recovery

A practical moderation workflow
- Stabilize the server. If the player is actively disrupting play, kick them first so staff can investigate without ongoing interference.
- Verify identity. Record the full SteamID rather than relying on a display name.
- Choose a proportionate duration. Convert the intended period to seconds; remember that omitting the duration invokes the one-year default.
- State a concise reason. Use a factual rule description, not an insult or an accusation you cannot support.
- Confirm the entry. Run
bansand save the result in your moderation log. - Handle appeals consistently. When staff decide to reverse a ban, use
unban [SteamID], verify the list, and record who authorized the change.
This workflow separates an immediate kick from a durable ban and prevents a name typo from becoming a mistaken long-term restriction.
Related command: slay
The documented slay command kills the targeted player in game and also bans them for 31,536,000 seconds—one year. Because it combines an in-game death with the default-length ban, it is substantially more severe than either a kick or a normal temporary ban. Do not use it as a harmless alternative to removing a player; reserve it for a policy that explicitly permits both effects, and verify the current syntax before execution.
