Black Wind King is a Chapter 1 boss in Black Wind Cave. The safest plan is to dodge his spear strings, punish only after they finish, and keep watching for the wind-orb move’s return charge. Use spells during safe openings—not when you are cornered or out of stamina.
Where to find Black Wind King
Follow the Chapter 1 story route through Black Wind Cave to the Cave Interior shrine. The encounter is on the main route, rather than an optional detour. The PowerPyx boss guide, published August 20, 2024, identifies the arena and fight; it does not specify a game version.

Prepare at the Cave Interior shrine
Rest at the nearby shrine, check your healing and stamina, and decide how you will use the spells available to your build. The Chapter 1 route guide, updated June 6, 2026, recommends securing shrine progress and planning spell use. It covers the launch game and PC and console patches current as of that date.

How to handle his main attacks
Dodge the spear string, then punish
Black Wind King commonly attacks with a three-hit spear sequence. Watch the wind-up, dodge each committed swing, and wait until the string is over before retaliating. Use a short attack combo during his recovery, then be ready to defend again. Trading hits or attacking into the sequence can drain your healing quickly.
Watch for the wind orb’s return charge
When Black Wind King becomes a wind orb, he charges more than once and can immediately pass back toward you. Evade the first charge without assuming the move is finished; keep your attention on the return pass. After the sequence, a large wind circle appears in the middle of the arena. Move clear of it rather than standing inside to continue attacking.

Respond to the flask and disappearance
If he drinks from his flask, he is vulnerable. When you are safely in range, a full quick-attack combo may interrupt the fire spray. If he disappears, create distance and prepare to dodge his next spear attack or overhead crash instead of chasing him. Running heavy attacks can add pressure while he is far away, but do not let the approach leave you without stamina to evade.
Use transformation and spells in safe windows
The boss guide recommends using the Guangzhi transformation’s heavy attack early, if it is available. For Immobilize, wait until Black Wind King returns to human form or has committed to an attack and left a safe opening. A planned cast can create time to deal damage; casting while cornered or out of stamina risks leaving you exposed. Spend other available spells after a miss or committed attack, not during a spear string.

A practical fight sequence

Rest at Cave Interior, check your healing and stamina, and choose a spell plan.

If available, use Guangzhi’s heavy attack early.

Dodge the spear hits one by one. Attack briefly only after the string ends.

When he becomes a wind orb, evade the charges and watch for the return pass. Move away from the central wind circle that follows.

Use Immobilize when he is human and you have a safe opening; avoid casting while trapped or out of stamina.

Interrupt the flask-and-fire sequence with quick attacks if you can reach him safely. If he disappears, prioritize dodging his next attack over pursuit.
These are tactics, not a fixed script: the guides do not establish that every attempt follows the same sequence.
Rewards and what comes next
The PowerPyx reward list names 696 Will, Cloud Step, and one Stone Spirit. Black Wind King is not the final Chapter 1 encounter: the next major boss is Black Bear Guai at Bodhi Peak.
