Chromatic Hexga’s back crystal is the key to the fight: shoot it until it turns white before Hexga acts, then keep firing to break it if you can. The crystal’s charge increases the boss’s damage resistance and strengthens its attacks. Clear its shields, save Action Points for crystal shots, and favor Ice damage over Fire.
Where to find Chromatic Hexga
Chromatic Hexga is an optional Act 2 boss, so defeating it is not required to advance the story. It is located in Stone Wave Cliffs Cave in the Frozen Hearts area. More specifically, Gamepressure places the cave on a small beach far east of Stone Wave Cliffs; reaching that beach requires Esquie. Gamepressure’s location guide and the Expedition 33 Wiki entry use these area names to describe the location.

Why Hexga can seem invincible
The crystal on Hexga’s back charges at the end of each turn, moving from white toward yellow, orange, and red. As its charge rises, Hexga gains damage resistance and its multi-hit combo becomes more threatening. At high charge, it can become effectively untouchable, so spending a turn on ordinary attacks while ignoring the crystal is a losing trade.
Use free-aim shots on the crystal to reduce its charge. Keep shooting until it returns to white, ideally before Hexga gets its next action. When the crystal is fully discharged and white, continue shooting to destroy it; Gamepressure reports that breaking it stops the charge cycle.

How to manage the fight
- Check the crystal before committing actions. If it is charged, make discharge your priority. Use free-aim shots until it turns white before Hexga acts.
- Break the crystal while it is white. Continue shooting after it is discharged if you have the opportunity. Destroying it prevents it from charging again, according to Gamepressure’s guide.
- Remove Hexga’s shields at round end. Hexga shields itself at the end of each round. Free-aim shots, multi-hit skills, and Maelle’s Breaking Rules can strip those shields. Avoid wasting attacks on the crystal while Hexga is exposed: the guide says the crystal is resistant in that state.
- Keep Action Points available. Parries return relatively few AP in this encounter, according to Gamepressure. Avoid spending every point on damage; preserve enough for at least one party member to shoot the crystal, and consider AP-restoring items.
- Use Ice and avoid relying on Fire. Ice is Hexga’s weakness, while Fire is resisted. Once crystal control and shields are handled, use available actions for Ice damage.
The practical action order is crystal control before Hexga acts, shield removal when the shields appear, then Ice damage with remaining actions. That order follows the mechanics described in the guide; it is not a tested build or guaranteed turn-by-turn script.
Attacks and defensive cues
Gamepressure describes a shield-enhanced sequence that starts with a diagonal jumping hit and continues with two pirouettes. More repetitions follow when the crystal is more charged. Hexga also has a party-wide attack after jumping and pirouetting; the guide notes that its movement suddenly speeds up just before that attack. Watch for that acceleration, and learn the timing of the sequence rather than trying to race a charged Hexga with damage.

Gamepressure’s 2025 guide update lists the following rewards. These are guide-reported values and effects, not figures confirmed by an official game source; the Expedition 33 Wiki notes that it could not verify exact drop quantities.
