How to Beat Every Invasive Monster in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection

Invasive monsters in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection are encounter puzzles, not ordinary damage races. Study the area and companion hints, then trigger the specific action that makes each monster retreat; a successful repel opens the endangered monster’s den so you can collect its egg. The solutions below follow PC Gamer’s walkthrough published March 15, 2026, and may differ if a later game update changes encounter behavior.

How invasive monster encounters work

Xbox Wire describes invasive species as fierce mutations that displaced endangered monsters from their ecosystems. The intended solution is often signaled by environmental clues and companion dialogue. As Xbox Wire puts it: “These creatures can’t be defeated using raw strength – making them retreat is a puzzle to test your knowledge of the mechanics, not your level (and you’ll save a lot of time knowing that!).”

That distinction matters: the immediate objective is usually to make the invader retreat, not to defeat it in a conventional fight. PC Gamer notes a specific exception in the longer-term sense for Yian Garuga: repelling it grants access to the egg, while slaying its level 50 boss requires returning later.

For general preparation, Xbox Wire recommends learning head-to-head attack types, enemy patterns and weaknesses, and crafting useful items. The Rite of Channelling can transfer genes and moves between Monsties without consuming the donor Monstie. These tools help with the game overall, but the required repel action is different for each encounter.

Every invasive monster and its repel solution

1. Invasive Yian Garuga — Azuria

Where: Eastern Rathian den; the story leads you to the encounter.

How to repel it: Break its legs. PC Gamer says no specific element or weapon is required, though a blunt weapon such as a Hammer can make the break easier. Focus on forcing the retreat to reach the endangered egg; defeating the monster outright is not the egg objective.

2. Invasive Plesioth — Azuria

Where: The endangered Lagiacrus den at Mirror Lake. Enter through the narrow channel north of Mirror Lake Catavan Stand.

How to repel it: Bring fire damage and break its head. PC Gamer identifies the head as the place where Plesioth stores the water for its ultimate attack; if you fail to break it, the monster can unleash a devastating move. Its retreat opens the Lagiacrus egg.

3. Invasive Seregios — Azuria

Where: A hill in the northwestern map area. Travel to Mirror Lake, then use a flying Monstie’s updraft and glide route to reach it.

How to repel it: Survive its early attacks, watch the color aura around its roar, and counter the roar in a head-to-head with the matching opposing attack type. PC Gamer’s example is a blue roar answered with a green Technical attack. The guide recommends a Hammer with an area attack that hits every part, such as Perfect Strike. A successful retreat reveals an Astalos egg.

4. Invasive Shogun Ceanataur — Canalta Timberland

Where: In a cave behind the waterfall in northern Frozen Grotto.

How to repel it: Raise an ally’s defense to level L before the invasive attack so the claws can be broken. PC Gamer warns that the claws can one-shot party members; a defense ability, Hunting Horn, or Armorskin can help reach the needed defense. Its retreat reveals a Mizutsune egg.

5. Invasive Nerscylla — Canalta Timberland

Where: The endangered Nargacuga den in eastern Blessing Hill. Glide over the river from the nearby Catavan Stand.

How to repel it: Nerscylla is invisible for much of the encounter, so ordinary attacks do not solve the puzzle. Watch for the red targeting line, then counter its Invasive Death Scissors with Wyvern Fire or Wyvern Blaze from a Gunlance. Success makes it retreat and opens the Nargacuga egg.

6. Invasive Arzuros — Canalta Timberland

Where: A den in the southern map area; you encounter it during the main story.

How to repel it: Arzuros draws strength from honey and summons Arzuros reinforcements. Defeat the reinforcements until it runs out of honey; then it retreats, granting access to a Canyne egg. PC Gamer notes that this egg can provide an early Ground Dive exploration ability.

7. Invasive Odogaron — Tarkuan

Where: The endangered Zinogre den. From the nearby Catavan Stand, use updrafts with a flying Monstie and glide west to the cliff, then use a wall-climbing Monstie to reach it.

How to repel it: Bring Mud Torrent—Almudron has it naturally, or the move can be transferred—and a Bow or Gunlance. Break Odogaron’s claws and inflict Mudbogged; it then retreats and reveals the Zinogre egg.

8. Invasive Diablos — Tarkuan

Where: The southern border. Reach it by taking a path behind the mountains or gliding over them.

How to repel it: PC Gamer recommends a Hammer with Meteor Hammer. When Diablos burrows, it can emerge from three holes and will not use the same hole twice. Use Meteor Hammer as it emerges to hit it and force its retreat. The reward is a Tigrex egg.

9. Invasive Khezu — Serathis

Where: A northeastern alcove beyond the glaciers.

How to repel it: Bring paralysis protection. Win head-to-heads to build Kinship and deal Wyvernsoul damage. PC Gamer says Khezu uses green Technical attacks normally and red Power attacks when enraged. When “Learning Complete” signals its ultimate invasive attack, use a Kinship skill to interrupt or counter it. It retreats and allows you to collect the Barioth egg.

Choose your preparation for the encounter, not one universal build

There is no single best weapon or Monstie for all nine encounters. The condition you must meet determines what to bring.

  • Part breaks: Check which body part must be broken and bring a weapon suited to that break. The guide recommends a Hammer for several checks, but does not require one for every encounter.
  • Attack-type counters: Seregios requires reading its roar cue and answering with the opposing attack type.
  • Specific weapon action: Nerscylla’s counter calls for Gunlance’s Wyvern Fire or Wyvern Blaze.
  • Status effect: Odogaron must be afflicted with Mudbogged as well as have its claws broken.
  • Defense or protection: Prepare level L defense for Shogun Ceanataur’s claw check and paralysis protection for Khezu.
  • Field traversal: Confirm you have the flying, gliding, or wall-climbing capability needed to reach the den.
  • Timing: Some solutions must land in response to an emergence or charged attack, so save the required move or Kinship action for the cue.
