How the two-phase fight works
The fight proceeds through two forms without changing to a separate encounter: first The Shape of Night, then Heolstor the Nightlord. Prepare for both phases rather than building around only one elemental matchup.
Phase one: The Shape of Night
The wiki identifies Fire damage as effective against The Shape of Night. It lists 4,984 solo HP for this phase, but that is community-maintained game data labelled version 1.04, not an official or independently verified current value. The figure may change with game updates.

Phase two: Heolstor the Nightlord
The wiki reports Lightning as effective in this phase and says Holy damage can stagger Heolstor while debuffing his attacks and defenses. It lists 11,215 solo HP for this phase, likewise as version 1.04 game data that should not be assumed current. The source favors Holy damage across the encounter, but does not establish a universally best build or compare weapons under controlled conditions.

What Heolstor’s relic says about his past
The wiki reproduces the backstory from the relic Heolstor drops. Its text begins: “The country lay in ruin. The man who once was knight had challenged the hero, but he too was no match. He fell, just another body in a great pile.” The passage continues that the fallen knight awoke beneath the others, having failed to protect anything or anyone, but still alive; he then cursed the world. This attribution is to the relic text as reproduced by the wiki.
