In the later phase, keep moving between marked lightning hazards and stay away from the arena edge so the whirlwind cannot box you in. If you keep dying before you can learn the patterns, improve your resistance, recovery, levels, or gear rather than relying on damage alone.
Know the encounter
Jamanra, the Abomination is the final boss of Act 2, encountered in The Dreadnought. He is a different encounter from Jamanra, the Risen King. The mechanics below follow a guide labeled Path of Exile 2 Early Access 0.5.4 and updated July 31, 2026; details may change in later patches. StratLore’s guide is the most recently dated source used here.
Prepare to survive the fight
The boss is listed as dealing physical and lightning damage, and lightning resistance is a key defensive consideration. Check your resistance and recovery before another attempt. If you are repeatedly dying early, consider gaining levels or improving gear. The available guides do not establish a required level or a universal lightning-resistance percentage, so treat these as practical adjustments, not entry requirements. The PoE2 Wiki lists the damage types; Game8’s guide recommends improving resistance, recovery, levels, or gear.
How to handle each part of the fight
Sidestep the early attacks
Jamanra uses a narrow, frontal lightning melee strike and throws a spear at ranged characters. Watch the wind-up and move to the side of the attack. When he aims the spear, dodge laterally rather than running straight backward; the guide identifies retreating directly as a common mistake. React to the visible telegraph instead of relying on a fixed timing.

When sand fills the arena, find Sekhema Asala promptly and stand behind her protective zone. Treat this as a survival check: reaching cover takes priority over attacking Jamanra from an exposed position. Once sheltered, deal with approaching undead as needed. Both StratLore and Game8 emphasize using Asala’s protection.
Keep moving through the later hazards
In the later phase, ground markers signal lightning pillar positions, while a whirlwind moves toward you. Move between the marked positions and keep changing location. When the whirlwind starts, head toward the arena interior rather than letting it herd you against the edge; staying central leaves room to dodge laterally. Patterns can vary, so respond to the current markers instead of following a memorized route.
Troubleshoot repeated deaths
- You die to lightning attacks: Recheck lightning resistance and recovery before trying to compensate with more damage.
- You die in the storm: Make reaching the area behind Asala your first response when the sandstorm begins.
- The later hazards trap you: Avoid lingering at the arena edge and preserve space to move around the next marker or the whirlwind.
- You cannot survive long enough to learn the fight: Consider gaining levels or improving gear; no cited source gives a universal required level.
- You prefer fighting close: Game8 suggests staying close and behind Jamanra when feasible. This is an option, not a rule: whether it works depends on your class, skills, and the attack being used.
Choose an approach that fits your character
No source establishes a definitive build or equipment setup for this fight. Use the encounter’s demands to judge your approach: whether you need more survival or damage, how comfortably you can handle the telegraphs at your preferred range, whether your skills let you reposition around the pillars and whirlwind, and whether you can reach Asala reliably when the storm starts. A setup that deals less damage but lets you move and survive may be more useful than one that forces attack uptime.
