Check whether Kell’s Vengeance is available
Bungie’s Year 8 Destiny Content Vault update says certain seasonal activities moved into the vault with Year 8’s launch on July 15, 2025, and names Kell’s Vengeance in its Year 8 activity list. Bungie notes that vaulted activities may return or be re-added to the Portal, but that announcement does not establish whether this activity has since returned. Check its node in-game before planning a run.

Complete the opening objective before the timer expires
Kell’s Vengeance is a group activity and cannot be played solo. All players receive Warden’s Gaze on entry. Finish the opening bonus objective before its timer runs out; otherwise, the team wipes. After the first two encounters, the activity leads to Skolas.

Pass Devouring Essence before it expires
One player receives Devouring Essence, a 30-second debuff that kills its carrier when the timer expires. Pass it to a teammate before that happens. A former carrier gets Drained of Essence for 25 seconds and cannot immediately take the debuff back, so coordinate the handoffs across the team.

Upgrade and deposit the Essence three times
- Defeat the Revenant Baron that appears during the encounter.
- Destroy the Baron’s Revenant Totem, then have the current Devouring Essence carrier collect the mote it produces. This upgrades the debuff to Enhanced Essence.
- Deposit Enhanced Essence into the Servitor emitting red vapor.
- Repeat the Baron, totem, mote, and deposit sequence until the team has made three deposits. Skolas then becomes vulnerable.
Shoot Dark Ether during damage
While Skolas is vulnerable, magenta Dark Ether moves toward him and heals him if it reaches him. Assign one player to watch for and shoot the projectiles while the rest of the team deals damage.

Bungie’s March 25, 2025 update says it “Fixed an issue where the Devouring Essence debuff can duplicate during the fight against Skolas.” That records a historical fix; it does not guarantee that every possible bug is absent.
