Where to find Lace in Deep Docks
The early Lace fight takes place in Deep Docks. GamesRadar+ recommends exploring nearby and finding the bench marked by a sign before entering the arena; resting there makes the return after a defeat shorter. The guide also suggests getting Swift Step if you do not have it yet. Forge Daughter’s shop and Sting Shard are mentioned as optional possibilities, not required equipment.
How to beat Lace: the safest attack pattern
Keep enough distance to read her stance. When she commits to an attack, dodge clear, then move in for one jumping downward strike during her recovery. Disengage before her next move. GamesRadar+ describes her as briefly vulnerable after attacks, making that recovery the safer opening than trying to start a trade.
- Watch Lace’s posture and identify the attack she is starting.
- Dodge the attack rather than swinging pre-emptively.
- When the attack ends, jump in and land a downward strike.
- Move back out and watch for the next tell.
This is a practical pattern-reading approach, not a frame-perfect timing rule. The attack descriptions and strategy below come from GamesRadar+’s guide; it does not provide frame data or patch-specific testing.

Lace’s attacks: tells and responses

How to avoid Lace’s parry counter
The guarded crouch is a defensive stance, not an opening. A direct hit can trigger a quick multi-hit retaliation, so hold your attack until Lace drops the guard or commits to another move. GamesRadar+ notes that a downward strike from above can bounce Hornet upward and create a chance to air-dash away, but avoiding the guard entirely is the simpler, safer response.
When to heal or spend silk
Bind for healing
Team Cherry’s 25 June 2019 post-E3 update says Bind heals three masks at the start of the game and consumes the full starting silk spool. If Hornet is hit during the action, the silk and heal are wasted. GamesRadar+ suggests creating distance by moving to the opposite side and healing in midair; treat that as a positioning suggestion rather than a guaranteed safe window, since the consulted guide does not establish exact healing timings.

Silkspear as an optional use of silk
GamesRadar+ also suggests spending a full silk supply on Silkspear for ranged damage. It is an optional resource-spending choice, not a required strategy; the basic approach is to save your openings for attacks after Lace’s moves.
What to do after beating Lace
After the first Deep Docks fight, continue forward, ring the large bell, and proceed toward Far Fields, according to GamesRadar+. Lace appears again later, but this route and advice concern the early encounter only.

Why Lace may feel familiar
In Team Cherry’s post-E3 update published 25 June 2019, the studio called Lace “the climactic boss fight of the demo sequence” and described her as “a huge test of player skill, similar to the Knight’s fight with Hornet in the original game.” That is demo-era characterization, not a present-day ranking of the boss’s difficulty. The same update credits Mitsuki Hashimoto as Lace’s voice actor.
