La Quimera Review: A Disappointing Debut From Reburn

La Quimera’s listed Early Access build covers four campaign levels and about five hours. A pre-launch review found dated combat and bugs, making it a wait-for-updates proposition for many players.

La Quimera is difficult to recommend at full price on the evidence available: in his April 25, 2025 hands-on review of a pre-launch build, Grant Taylor-Hill found its shooting familiar, its presentation dated, and its campaign too slight to overcome bugs and uninspired set pieces. Steam currently labels the game Early Access, so that assessment should not be treated as a verdict on every later update. For players curious about the concept, the key question is whether the listed opening campaign and online co-op are enough to justify playing an unfinished build.

What is La Quimera?

Steam lists La Quimera as a story-driven first-person shooter developed and published by Reburn, released May 7, 2025, and currently in Early Access. Its setting is a dystopian future Latin America, where a player character working as a private military contractor is drawn into conflict among microstates and corporations.

Reburn describes its goal as combining a story-driven shooter with solo and cooperative play. That is the stated ambition, not proof that the current Early Access build fully delivers that blend. Steam’s description says the initial release was intended to validate design choices and gather player input; additional levels and improved pacing are among the planned work for a full version.

What did the review find disappointing?

In his April 25, 2025 review for Insider Gaming, Grant Taylor-Hill described a hands-on pre-launch build that felt generic and dated. He criticized the familiar combat loop, movement and visuals, weak voice acting, and set pieces that failed to make a strong impression. He also found little incentive to explore and considered the campaign short.

His criticisms included specific bugs: dialogue continuing after he skipped cutscenes, and a shadow issue that produced floating orbs. These are observations from his session, not independently reproduced findings or a guarantee about the version currently available. The review also allowed that playing with friends might offer a different angle, while questioning how much that would improve the experience.

How much content is in Early Access?

Steam’s developer-authored Early Access description says the listed build contains the first four campaign levels and approximately five hours of story content. That is Reburn’s estimate, not an independently measured completion time; individual playtime can vary. Steam also says bugs and balance adjustments are expected as development continues.

Reburn said it planned to remain in Early Access for up to 18 months, while explicitly noting that the schedule could change. That was a plan, not a confirmed completion date. The Steam listing inspected on October 8, 2026 still carried Early Access labeling, but the store’s status and content description can change as the game is updated.

Can you play La Quimera solo or in co-op?

Steam lists both single-player and online co-op. The store description says you can play alone or with up to two friends, for a group of three. Taylor-Hill thought friends might add another dimension, but his review did not establish that co-op resolves the campaign’s pacing, presentation, or technical issues.

Is La Quimera worth playing?

Taylor-Hill’s April 2025 verdict was “Wait”: he saw a few hours of basic entertainment, but recommended waiting for a sale rather than paying full price. That is a dated opinion about a pre-launch build, not current pricing guidance or a consensus score. It is most useful as a warning for players expecting a polished, substantial campaign at launch.

The Early Access listing makes the trade-off clearer. The build described by Reburn is a short opening portion, and the scope and schedule of future additions remain subject to change. Players comfortable with unfinished games and interested in trying the premise or assembling a small co-op group may find that limited scope acceptable. Those looking for a complete, polished shooter have reason to wait for updates and reassess the game in the version they would actually buy.
