The most reliable approach is to dodge through his fire and delayed sword attacks toward him, then punish his recovery. When he rises for the large explosion, sprint away early and keep moving until it detonates.
Where to find Midra
Midra waits at the end of Midra’s Manse in the southwestern Abyssal Woods. The route begins in Shadow Keep and passes through a concealed passage, a coffin route and Darklight Catacombs. Windows Central’s route starts at the elevator behind the Storehouse, First Floor Site of Grace.
- From that Site of Grace, look for a ladder near the burning boats and descend.
- Follow the narrow route behind the flowing water, then descend the next ladder.
- Ride the coffin to reach the route toward Darklight Catacombs.
- Make your way through the catacombs and into the Abyssal Woods, then continue to Midra’s Manse in the region’s southwest.
Expect stealth and danger in the Abyssal Woods; this is not simply a direct ride through the region. Windows Central’s guide provides an actionable route, but it is not an official map or route description. Windows Central’s Midra guide has the route details.
Prepare for physical damage, fire and Madness
Midra’s melee attacks deal physical damage, while his Frenzied Flame attacks deal fire damage and build Madness. Focus helps resist Madness buildup; physical and fire resistance can reduce the corresponding damage. Blocking can mitigate a sword hit, but it does not necessarily prevent Madness buildup, so a shield is not a complete defense. EIP Gaming’s boss guide also emphasizes that limitation.

- Useful defensive options: Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman for physical damage, Flamedrake Talisman for fire, and Clarifying Horn Charm for Focus. Clarifying Cured Meat and Clarifying Boluses can also help with Madness, while Boiled Crab and Fireproof Dried Liver are other defensive consumables cited by Windows Central.
- Pressure and damage: Heavy attacks, guard counters and high-poise-damage Ashes of War can pressure Midra’s stance and create critical-hit openings. Windows Central also reports that his melee attacks can be parried and that three parries cause a stance break.
- Status and damage type: Windows Central reports that Midra is susceptible to Bleed and Frostbite and weak to Holy damage, suggesting Holy Grease or Holy Water Pots as options. EIP describes Bleed as potentially effective but cautions against treating it as a special weakness. These are viable approaches, not guarantees of an easy fight.
- Summons: Mimic Tear and Omenkiller Rollo are options named by Windows Central; EIP also lists Dung Eater Puppet, Greatshield Soldiers and Taylew the Golem Smith. A durable summon can draw attention or add pressure, but the best choice depends on your build and what you have available.
PowerPyx recommends level 150 or higher as general preparation for the expansion and advises collecting Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ash Blessings to improve damage negation in the Realm of Shadow. That is a guide recommendation, not an official minimum level or entry requirement. PowerPyx’s DLC boss guide was published June 20, 2024.
How to handle Midra’s regular attacks
Opening flame bursts
The encounter begins with a brief weakened form before Midra becomes the Lord of Frenzied Flame. EIP calls this opening “Phase 0.” Avoid wasting flasks or taking unnecessary Madness buildup during it. In the main fight, Midra commonly opens with two bursts of Frenzied Flame. Roll through the flames toward him, then take a short punish rather than overcommitting. At range, watch for straight or sweeping flame sprays.

Delayed sword combos
Most of Midra’s sword pressure comes in three- or four-hit strings, sometimes with a flame burst mixed in. Roll forward and toward his right side, and wait for each delayed strike instead of panic-rolling early. When he lets the greatsword drop back to his side, he is recovering: use that opening to attack. Some finishers send a line of fire forward, making a retreating roll less dependable than dodging through the attack.
Other attack cues
- Raised left hand: a stake thrust is coming. Roll through the strike and punish the recovery.
- Delayed airborne spin: do not roll at the start of the jump; its timing is designed to catch an early dodge.
- Sword arm pulled back while pointing forward: expect a thrust. Dodge through it, then use the recovery rather than extending a greedy combo.
How to dodge Midra’s explosion
Windows Central places the large explosion transition around 70% health and reports that it can recur at about 30%; these are approximate timings from that guide, not official thresholds. Midra rises for several seconds, his eye flares, and he crashes down at your position.

As soon as he rises, sprint away and keep running through the detonation. Do not wait for the landing to begin your escape, and do not rely on a standard dodge at the last moment: Windows Central warns that ordinary dodge invulnerability will not avoid the blast. EIP also recommends creating distance as he rises and mentions a landing roll as a possible extra contingency. Treat that roll as additional insurance, not a replacement for getting away early.

Reward for defeating Midra
Defeating Midra awards the Remembrance of the Lord of Frenzied Flame, according to Windows Central and EIP. Midra’s Flame of Frenzy is associated with that Remembrance. Its exact FP cost, memory-slot use and Faith requirement are not included here because the available values come from a secondary reference database and should be checked against the in-game item details.
