Repeat as needed. The giant is blind but hears well. After the fight, take the Guardian Pendant and place it in the matching slot on the statue to continue to the Idol of Ra.
Which giant is this?
This is the blind giant in the Gizeh temple, encountered shortly before the Idol of Ra. Some walkthroughs call it the “Blind Giant”; the Guardian Pendant it drops identifies the same encounter. It is not Locus, the recurring giant in the Vatican and Sukhothai, whose encounters involve direct hand-to-hand combat. PowerPyx’s Idol of Ra walkthrough and the GameFAQs boss guide describe the Gizeh fight.

How to beat the Guardian Giant
- Stay crouched and watch your footing. The giant relies on sound, so crouch while moving and avoid coins and loose debris. Noisy ground can give away your position.
- Find the giant, then choose how to see. You can briefly use the lighter to locate it, but Indy cannot hold the lighter and a weapon at the same time. Put the lighter away before taking a weapon. Alternatively, reopen the three ceiling portals to light the room.
- If you activate the portals, leave the pressure plate. The mechanism makes noise and draws the giant toward the plate. Move away and crouch once the portals are open; the room will be easier to navigate without the lighter.
- Pick up a metal rod and land a heavy hit. Wind up a charged heavy attack and strike when the on-screen weapon indicator shows the hit can connect. Attacking makes Indy stand, so crouch again immediately afterward.
- Break contact and wait. Retreat, crouch, and let the giant lose track of you before approaching for another strike. Repeat the strike-and-hide loop, replacing the rod when it breaks. The guides do not establish a fixed number of hits, so use the weapon indicator rather than counting attacks.
- Collect the pendant and use it on the statue. Take the Guardian Pendant from the giant’s body, then return to the statue and place it in the matching chest slot to open the way to the Idol of Ra.
Which visibility option should you use?
| Approach | What it helps with | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Use the lighter briefly | Lets you locate the giant before you pick up a weapon. | You must put it away to fight, so you navigate the dark room without it. |
| Reopen the three ceiling portals | Restores enough light to navigate without holding the lighter. | The mechanism attracts the giant to the pressure plate; leave that area quickly. |
Neither approach is presented as mandatory. Choose the one that makes it easier for you to stay quiet and line up a weapon hit.
What to do if the fight keeps going wrong
- The giant finds you while you move: crouch and avoid coins or debris instead of crossing noisy patches.
- You cannot see where it is: use the lighter briefly, or activate the portals and then move away from the pressure plate.
- You cannot attack while using the lighter: that is expected; put it away, then pick up a room weapon.
- The giant rushes you after the portals open: the activation sound draws it toward the plate. Crouch and leave the area rather than lingering beside the mechanism.
- Your attack misses or does not connect: wait for the on-screen weapon indicator, then try a charged heavy strike. Retreat and reset your position instead of relying on a specific hit count.
The GameFAQs guide says it assumes Normal Action difficulty; the sources do not establish a universal hit count, exact attack timing, or platform-specific control differences. The strategy above centers on the documented sound-and-stealth loop and the game’s on-screen hit cue.
