To beat the Fire Giant, treat the encounter as two fights: in phase one, focus on the chained ankle and stay close enough to read his attacks; in phase two, stop relying on the same approach and reposition around his changed attack pattern. Torrent can help you cross the broad arena or reposition, but is optional.
Where to find the Fire Giant and what to expect
The Fire Giant is encountered at the Forge of the Giants in the Mountaintops of the Giants. A third-party encounter guide dated May 23, 2026 describes the fight as having two phases and recommends ankle-focused play in the first, followed by adapting to the second phase’s attacks. These are guide recommendations, not official FromSoftware instructions: Fire Giant encounter guide.
Prepare without relying on a required build
There is no universally required character level, weapon, spell, or build established by the available guide. Go in with equipment whose damage and defensive properties you understand, and choose an approach you can execute consistently over a long encounter. The guide mentions frost, bleed, stagger, and ranged magic as possible options, but does not provide comparative testing; treat them as build choices, not guaranteed counters.
- If your character is built for close-range combat, plan to attack the chained ankle during openings.
- If you are more comfortable attacking from range, use that preference as a build option rather than assuming it is inherently safer or faster.
- Use Torrent if mobility across the open arena helps you manage distance; you can fight without making Torrent part of your plan.
Phase one: target the chained ankle and read the attack
The guide’s main phase-one recommendation is to focus on the chained ankle and stay close enough to manage the boss’s movements. Close positioning helps you respond to attacks rather than spending the fight chasing him across the snow. Do not treat “stay close” as “attack continuously”: wait for an opening, deal damage, then move in response to the next tell.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsRecognize the attacks before committing
The guide identifies a shield slam, rolling attack, foot stomp, and snow boulder as attacks to watch for. When you see an attack beginning, prioritize evading its path; once it has passed and the boss gives you space, close in and return to the ankle. Avoid trading hits simply to maintain damage.
Use Torrent for distance, not as a requirement
In the large arena, Torrent is an option for crossing distance or repositioning when the boss has moved away. If mounting makes it harder for you to judge an attack or control your approach, stay on foot instead. The guide presents Torrent as a mobility choice, not a mandatory part of the fight.
Phase two: adjust to the changed pattern
Phase two is distinct from the opening phase, so do not assume the ankle-focused routine will work unchanged. Track the Fire Giant’s movement, get out of the path of broad attacks, and re-enter only after an attack creates an opening. The available guide does not establish one universally safest route through this phase; respond to the attack in front of you rather than forcing a memorized sequence.
Summons and alternate approaches
A search result for Eldenpedia indicates that Alexander may be summoned if the relevant quest progress is complete, but the page could not be opened to verify exact requirements or the summon sign’s location. Because those details are not confirmed here, do not build your plan around finding Alexander; check the in-game summon options and your quest progress. Summons, like Torrent and status-oriented damage, are optional variations rather than prerequisites.
