The 7-star Ground-Tera Garchomp raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet was a limited-time event that ran May 23–25 and May 30–June 1, 2025. Those dates have passed, and the official notice does not confirm a rerun or another way to encounter this specific Garchomp. If you are preparing for a future return, the safest approach is to plan for Ground-Tera damage while choosing a Pokémon that can also withstand Garchomp’s moves—not to rely on Tera matchup alone.
Can you still fight the 7-star Garchomp raid?
Not through the 2025 event. The official Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet news notice dates the Ground-Tera Garchomp event for May 23–25, 2025, and May 30–June 1, 2025. It says the special Garchomp may appear in future events or become available by other methods, but it does not announce a return date or a current alternate method.
The event Garchomp had the same Mark, Ability, and moves during both weekends. It could be caught once per save file; players who had already caught it could still battle it for rewards. Those details describe the past event, not a currently available encounter.
How to prepare if the raid returns
Plan for Ground Tera, but account for Garchomp’s moves
The event Garchomp’s confirmed Tera Type was Ground. Select a Pokémon that can deal effective damage to a Ground Tera target, but also consider whether it can survive the boss’s attacks. A raid Pokémon’s Tera Type can differ from its ordinary type; the official Pokémon Tera Raid mechanics page explains that distinction. A favorable matchup against Ground does not by itself make a Pokémon a safe counter.

Do not assume a specific counter build is verified
The official event pages do not publish Garchomp’s exact moveset, stats, scripted actions, or move sequence, and they do not endorse a counter build. Without verified information about its attacks, no event-specific build can be presented as a confirmed reliable choice. Consider both damage against Ground Tera and survivability against the boss’s actual coverage if a future notice supplies its moves.
Use team support in the timed battle
Tera Raids are timed battles in which you can coordinate with up to three other Trainers. Official Pokémon guidance describes cheers that raise offense, raise defense, or heal allies. Coordinate your team’s damage and support rather than treating the encounter as a simple type-matchup check.

How to join or host a Garchomp event raid
If this event or a similar limited-time raid returns, participation depends on whether you host or join. The 2025 notice said players who had completed the specified postgame events could find black Tera Raid crystals; players who had not completed that progress could still join another Trainer’s raid.
| Participation method | Progress or connection needed | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Host a black-crystal event raid | The event notice required completion of certain postgame events. | Download the latest Poké Portal News, then look for the event’s black Tera Raid crystals. |
| Join online | Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, internet connection, and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. | Join another Trainer’s raid through multiplayer. |
| Join locally | Nearby players using local communication. | Connect with a nearby host; online membership is not the stated requirement for local communication. |
Nintendo’s Tera Raid Battle support instructions cover joining raids, downloading current Poké Portal News for limited-time battles, and the postgame progress that some event raids require hosts to complete. For the 2025 event, the notice gave this news-download path: open the X menu, select Poké Portal, choose Mystery Gift, then Check Poké Portal News.
