Fight Rugalea on foot, roll forward through its repeated foreleg swipes, then use the brief opening to attack. Against its traveling ground wave, wait until the quake is close before dodging. Around half health, Rugalea’s roar signals a more dangerous phase with wind-enhanced attacks.
Where to find Rugalea
Rugalea is an optional field boss in the northern woods of Rauh Base, northwest of the Ravine North Site of Grace. This location is identified by EIP Gaming and Eldenpedia.

A Spirit Ash can be summoned in the area, and the guide also reports that a cooperator is available. Rugalea may be approached before it becomes aggressive, so a ranged character might be able to land an opening hit.
How to prepare
- Fight on foot. The guide describes the close-range patterns as easier to dodge with rolls than from Torrent.
- Consider fire damage or sleep. EIP Gaming recommends fire and says sleep is easier to inflict. Treat both as useful options rather than guaranteed weaknesses: these are guide observations, not an official confirmation.
- Favor quick attacks and poise pressure. Rugalea’s openings are short, so prioritize attacks you can land and recover from promptly. Jumping heavy attacks are suggested for building poise pressure.
- Use defensive tools that suit your build. A shield, damage-negation options, fire spells or weapons, and fire-using Spirit Ashes are all possible approaches; none is required.
There is no established universally best weapon or build for this fight. Practical choices depend on whether you can use fire or sleep, land a safe attack during a brief opening, and apply poise pressure without getting caught.

How to respond to Rugalea’s attacks
| Attack | What to watch for | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Alternating foreleg swipes | Rugalea advances while swiping and may finish with a bear hug. | Roll forward into or under the swipes. This can interrupt the combo and create a short punish window. Try a jumping heavy if you have time. |
| Headbutt or fast lunge | Rugalea leans forward or rears before moving in. | Roll toward the bear rather than retreating straight back. Its movement may carry it past you, leaving a chance to counter. |
| Close earthquake | Rugalea plants one or both paws to send a quake through the nearby ground. | Roll toward its side, away from the frontal reach. Watch the animation to distinguish this from the slower double-paw slam. |
| Traveling quake wave | Rugalea strikes the ground with its right paw and sends a wave toward you. | Wait for the wave to approach, then dodge. Rolling too early can leave you mistimed. |
What changes after Rugalea’s roar?
At roughly half health, Rugalea rears and roars. The roar itself can damage you if you are close. Afterward, its attacks gain wind effects and deal more damage, so avoid treating the second half as a simple continuation of the first.
If you are at range, the roar animation may offer a chance to punish. Then return to the same core rhythm: dodge into the close-range swipes, take a brief attack window, and stay patient with the traveling quake.
What does Rugalea drop?
Defeating Rugalea guarantees Roar of Rugalea, an incantation described by Eldenpedia as a forward-cone roar. EIP Gaming’s guide lists the reward as 210,000 runes; that figure is a guide-reported game reward, not an independently verified statistic. Do not confuse Roar of Rugalea with Ralva’s separate reward.
