Build a team with super-effective attacks
Mega Lucario is a Fighting/Steel-type Mega Raid boss. Pokémon GO Hub’s June 29, 2026 guide, updated June 30, lists Fighting, Fire, and Ground as effective counter types. Start with your strongest built attackers that can use those move types; a well-powered Pokémon you already have may be more useful than an underpowered pick based only on its name.

These are Pokémon GO Hub’s guide recommendations, not results from hands-on testing. Rankings can change as game stats, moves, and raid conditions change. When choosing among your own options, weigh move effectiveness alongside each Pokémon’s level, investment, and ability to survive the boss’s charged attacks.
Bring a group sized for your teams
Pokémon GO Hub estimates that two to five high-level Trainers can defeat Mega Lucario, depending on their counters and levels. Treat that as a broad, conditional range—not a promise that two players will succeed. Bring additional Trainers if your attackers are not well powered up or lack strong super-effective moves. Niantic notes that some Raid Bosses are difficult to defeat alone and recommends joining other Trainers.

Battle, dodge, and rejoin if needed
- Choose your party: Select your strongest available attackers with super-effective Fire, Fighting, or Ground moves.
- Dodge charged attacks when useful: Niantic says dodging can decrease damage taken and extend your time in battle. Use it to help keep key attackers alive.
- Rejoin after your team faints: If the raid timer has not expired, re-enter the same raid and battle again. Niantic says you can rejoin after an unsuccessful attempt without using another Raid Pass.
- Add help if the group is struggling: If time runs short, improve your counters or invite more Trainers for another attempt.
What winning gives you
Winning a Mega Raid awards Mega Energy and an opportunity to catch the Raid Boss. The amount of Mega Energy depends on how quickly the boss is defeated, according to Niantic’s Mega Evolutions support page.
Pokémon GO Hub’s 2026 guide lists 200 Mega Energy for a Lucario’s first Mega Evolution and 40 for later re-evolutions of that same Lucario. It also lists a catch encounter range of 1469–1544 CP at level 20 without a weather boost, or 1837–1930 CP at level 25 in Cloudy or Snow weather. These are guide figures; weather and in-game conditions affect the encounter.

Check whether Mega Lucario is currently in raids
The dates in the available records are historical, not confirmation of a current return. Niantic’s announcement covered Mega Lucario’s debut during the July 2024 Ultra Unlock Raid Day. Leek Duck lists a later raid window from July 1, 2026, at 6:00 a.m. through July 5, 2026, at 10:00 p.m. local time. Both periods have ended by October 8, 2026; neither source establishes whether Mega Lucario is in raids now.
