In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, you fight the Three Crones as Ciri during the Bald Mountain quest. Make sure you’re in the Ciri fight
The Crones encounter on Bald Mountain is a Ciri-controlled fight, separate from Geralt’s nearby battle with Imlerith. The opponents are Brewess, Weavess, and Whispess. Who should you attack first?
Start with Brewess
Prima recommends Brewess as the first target because her large size makes her easier to hit and her melee attacks are comparatively easy for Ciri to evade. That is the guide’s suggested opening, not a universally proven best order for every player or difficulty.
Finish one target before switching
Concentrate your attacks on one Crone rather than spreading damage across all three. Ciri’s teleporting slashes can hit multiple enemies, so use them when the opening is favorable, but keep a clear primary target.

How to handle the hazards
- Keep moving. Use Ciri’s mobility to avoid attacks, then return with strikes when the Crones leave an opening.
- Watch the bloody water. Whispess can reach into it and throw body parts at Ciri; disturbances in the water signal a hazard to evade.
- React to the crows. The Crones can appear to burst into crows, which may distract Ciri and interrupt attacks. Evade rather than pressing a combo through the effect.
A practical fight sequence
- Confirm you are controlling Ciri in the Bald Mountain sequence.
- Choose Brewess as your opening target, following Prima’s recommendation.
- Evade her melee attacks and focus your damage on her; use a teleporting slash to catch multiple Crones when the opening allows.
- Stay alert to Whispess’s thrown attacks and disturbances in the bloody water, and move away from them.
- Be ready to evade crow effects that disrupt your attacks, then resume focusing on your target.
What not to prepare for
This is Ciri’s fight, so do not plan around Geralt’s oils, signs, potions, armor, or equipment. Prima’s encounter guidance describes Ciri’s tactics and does not establish those preparations as applicable. It also does not establish a required player level, a fixed number of hits, a precise timing window, or a guaranteed target order beyond its recommendation to start with Brewess.
