To clear the Varmareno Coliseum, unlock it in Port Brilehaven after the main quest in Martira, then work through the certification battle and the Bronze, Silver, and Gold ranks. You do not need to force every division as soon as it appears: later fights are intended for a stronger party. Check each match’s rules before entering—some are action battles, some restrict your party, and Silver I requires two Brawler-lineage Archetypes.
Where to find the Coliseum and when to go
The Varmareno Coliseum is in Port Brilehaven and becomes accessible after you complete the main quest in Martira, according to PC Gamer. It is open in the afternoon and at night, but closes on rainy days. Check the weather forecast NPC before spending time traveling there.
A match uses a free-time block. You can enter once in the afternoon and again at night, so a clear day may offer two opportunities. The Champion request has no deadline, according to Push Square; prioritize any deadline-bound request or important Follower rank first.
PC Gamer reports that party MP is restored between Coliseum matches. You can therefore spend MP during one ranked fight without needing to preserve it for the next one.

How ranked progression works
Ranked play starts with a certification battle, then advances through Bronze, Silver, and Gold. The opponents become substantially stronger in later divisions, so treat the route as a series of milestones rather than a single run. Guide-reported levels and tactics are recommendations, not guaranteed difficulty thresholds; your difficulty setting and build affect how challenging a fight feels.
The game combines turn-based combat with real-time action and customizable Archetypes, as described by ATLUS. Coliseum rules can call for either a conventional party battle or action combat in the arena, so check the battle type before settling on a setup.
Prepare for restrictions and unusual match rules
- Check who can fight. Some matches are protagonist-only; Silver I allows the protagonist and one ally, and both must use Brawler-lineage Archetypes.
- Bring healing. It is useful in action battles and when using Brawler skills that spend HP. In the Bronze II action battle, the menu is unavailable, though Auto Recovery can heal the party.
- Build around weaknesses. Use the listed weakness when possible, and avoid attacks that hit resistance or immunity. Area attacks can help against groups.
- Adjust for later ranks. PC Gamer recommends investing in Commander or Faker Archetypes for buffs and debuffs. These are guide recommendations, not required builds.
Certification battle
Crag Manjula
Gamer Guides lists Crag Manjula at level 33. It nulls Fire and resists physical attacks, so use another element rather than relying on either damage type. A Knight can draw attacks away from vulnerable allies, but do not use one weak to the incoming Electric or Pierce attacks. Gamer Guides lists the certification quest reward as 25,000 reeve.

Bronze rank
Bronze III: Goborn group
This is a party battle against Goborns, including a Goborn King. Gamer Guides recommends group physical attacks such as Swordmaster’s Raging Edge to thin the group, and advises prioritizing the Goborn Hexer because it uses group Electric attacks. Reward: Man O’War Gloves.

This is an action-combat arena fight, not a conventional party battle. Gamer Guides recommends inheriting a healing skill, attacking in short bursts, and dodging instead of committing to long attack strings. The menu is unavailable during the match, but Auto Recovery can heal the party. Reward: Blessed Water ×10, Graced Water ×5, and Heavenly Water ×2.
Bronze I: Vesp and Nocross
Only the protagonist fights. Both enemies are weak to Pierce, so Gamer Guides recommends a Sniper or Gunner approach, staying in the back row and using Myriad Shots or Wild Salvo. Keep a healing option available as a fallback. Rewards: Fortune’s Grasp and Rainbow Bathblossom.

Silver rank
Silver III: Homo Tenta variants
This group battle pits the party against several Homo Tenta variants. Gamer Guides suggests area attacks so you do not have to handle each enemy one at a time, and keeping a Knight available to draw attacks. Reward: Miracle Igniter.
Silver II: Goborn, Gargoz, and Orgo
This action-combat match has a 90-second limit, according to Gamer Guides. Use a strong weapon and have healing access; avoid spending so long attacking that you cannot dodge. Reward: five Hero’s Jewelled Roots.
Silver I: Coliseum Mage and Coliseum Fighter
This match restricts you to the protagonist and one ally, and both must use Brawler-lineage Archetypes. Gamer Guides says the Coliseum Mage is weak to Pierce and resists most magic; the Coliseum Fighter resists most physical attacks and is weak to Light. Try to defeat them close together: the surviving foe powers up when the other falls. Brawler attacks consume HP, so healing is useful. Rewards: Full Moon Medal and Chain of Bonds.

Gold III: Lina
The protagonist faces Lina alone. Gamer Guides lists her at level 60 and notes that Prince is a useful option if you have already unlocked it. Reward: Jade Jian, which the guide says can be purified into Heavenly Breeze.
Gold II: Kokosados and Leoglyphs
This is an action battle against Kokosados and Leoglyphs. GameFAQs describes a no-damage condition and recommends the Gunner’s long-range weapon; treat that condition as GameFAQs’ account of the match. Gamer Guides lists ten Hero’s Jewelled Roots as the reward.
Gold I: Homo Luano
Gamer Guides identifies this high-level Homo Luano encounter as the final Gold division match before the Champion quest. PC Gamer points to the special Archetype unlocked after month nine and describes an Overlord’s Sash strategy built around a large synthesis attack. Treat that as a guide-specific strategy, not a guaranteed build or damage result.

How to become Coliseum Champion
After ranked battles unlock and you complete “Defeat the Coliseum Monster,” speak to the Spirited Receptionist to continue the Champion request through Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Push Square says the request has no deadline and lists the reward as the Yggdrasil Crown and 130,000 reeve; PC Gamer also identifies the Yggdrasil Crown as the final reward.
Ranked matches versus the Gauntlet
| Activity | Encounters | Progression | Suggested timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ranked matches | Specified opponents and match conditions, as described by the guides. | Certification, then Bronze, Silver, and Gold in sequence. | Attempt divisions as your party becomes strong enough; return for later ranks. |
| Gauntlet | GameFAQs describes 30 randomized fights; the enemy mix varies. | Higher ranks unlock as you advance through ranked matches, according to GameFAQs. | PC Gamer recommends leaving it until late, when your party can overpower the fights. |
Because Gauntlet encounters are randomized, a fixed round-by-round strategy is not established by these guides. Plan for changing enemy combinations rather than expecting a set sequence.
