How to Beat Yama the White in Path of Exile 2

Yama’s darkness phase is the key: follow the apparitions to the final safe position before the arena-wide burst. The boss drops a Silver Coin, not the passive points themselves.

Yama the White is an optional Act Four boss in the Halls of the Dead. Keep moving during his physical and chaos attacks, then follow the apparitions during his darkness phase to the final safe position before his arena-wide burst. The encounter drops a Silver Coin; the +2 Weapon Set Passive Skill Points come later, after the Trial of the Ancestors and use of the Tattoo of Hinekora.

Where to find Yama the White

Progress through Act Four to the Halls of the Dead, a sacred Karui location reached through the Eye of Hinekora. Yama is an optional encounter there. Navali sends him to test you before you can speak with Hinekora. Xbox Wire’s September 5, 2025 feature describes the setting and the fight’s design; an Early Access 0.5.4 guide updated August 2, 2026 identifies the encounter as optional.

How to handle Yama’s attacks

Yama is highly agile. He can jump onto clusters of totems and slam down onto you, while his chaos magic threatens both Energy Shield and Life. The developers describe the fight as a test of agility and spell avoidance. Xbox Wire

  • Keep room to move instead of standing still to trade attacks.
  • Watch for his jumps and move out from beneath his landing.
  • Dodge his attack sequences, then use the openings after them to deal damage rather than trying to attack through his pressure. This is practical advice based on the described attack pattern, not a tested build strategy.

How to survive the darkness and apparition phase

When the arena darkens, Yama disappears and apparitions show possible futures. Follow the survivable route: in the sequence described by the 0.5.4 guide, the apparitions lead to a final safe position before a burst that covers the arena.

  1. When Yama disappears and the darkness begins, look for the apparition sequence.
  2. Track the route that leads to the safe position, rather than staying in the open or guessing at a destination.
  3. Move promptly to the final safe position before the arena-wide burst.

The same guide reports that pillars can block line of sight from the burst. Treat pillar cover as a patch-specific fallback, not a guaranteed substitute for following the safe route: this advice is reported for Early Access 0.5.4 and may change in later patches.

Preparation: useful recommendations, not requirements

The 0.5.4 guide recommends level 50 or higher, capped chaos resistance, and physical mitigation. These are guide suggestions, not official minimum requirements or a guarantee that the fight will be safe. There is no established exact resistance target for the encounter.

What Yama drops—and when the passive points arrive

Yama drops a Silver Coin, which starts the Trial of the Ancestors progression. The reward chain is:

  1. Defeat Yama and receive the Silver Coin.
  2. Use it to start the Trial of the Ancestors.
  3. Complete the Trial to receive the Tattoo of Hinekora.
  4. Use the Tattoo to gain +2 Weapon Set Passive Skill Points.

The points are not awarded immediately when Yama dies; they come later through the Trial and Tattoo. This reward sequence is reported by the Early Access 0.5.4 guide.

Choosing an approach

The available guide advice is general rather than a tested ranking of classes or builds. Melee characters can look for openings after Yama’s attacks; ranged characters can maintain mid-range and make use of pillars. In either case, prioritize quick repositioning and learning the apparition route. Hardcore players should identify the safe position before committing to the fight, as the guide recommends. These are practical options, not evidence that one build performs better than another.
