Use a Fatuo weapon if you have one, since Zanni is Vis-aligned and Fatuo is strong against Vis. Build your approach around parrying readable attacks, while moving or jumping clear of area attacks rather than relying on close-range dodge rolls. Zanni is the final boss of Quinta, fought in the School of Zanni.
Prepare for the School of Zanni
In the Quinta route, the School of Zanni follows the Old Ruler’s Crypt section. Speak with Pulcinella and continue through the school to reach the arena, according to the GameFAQs chapter walkthrough.

Choose a Fatuo option
Zanni is identified as Vis-aligned, and Fatuo is strong against Vis. That makes a Fatuo weapon a sensible matchup, not a requirement or a guarantee of a specific damage increase. Epic’s elemental guide explains that elemental damage can come from Lines, throwable items, weapons, and weapon infusions.
Set up a boss-focused loadout
Jyamma Games’ official FAQ says each loadout has its own weapons, parry gem, quick items, Lines, and Path of Innovators perks, and that players can swap among up to three loadouts at any time. You can therefore prepare a setup for this fight without treating one build as universally best.

Use parries for readable attacks and positioning for area damage
Jyamma Games says perfect parries inflict unraveling posture damage and cost no stamina; the damage they negate depends on the equipped gem. Partial parries reduce damage. Epic’s guide explains that attacks and well-timed parries fill the Unraveling Meter, and a finishing maneuver becomes available when it is full.
Do not try to parry everything. A translated attack guide from Rutab, published September 22, 2024, describes moves that are difficult to parry, a short-range Vis blast that cannot be parried, and hitboxes that can make a dodge look successful while still connecting. Its responses below are third-party advice, not official move names or a verified account of patch-specific timings. The available sources do not establish whether later patches changed the moves.

Respond to Zanni’s attacks

Manage dodges and counterattacks
Use rolls selectively to escape an area-of-effect zone or sidestep projectiles, rather than treating them as a dependable answer to close-range melee. Jeremy Deskins’ GameFAQs walkthrough notes that the game’s dodge has limited invulnerability. This is general combat advice, not a Zanni-specific guarantee.
After an attack finishes, reposition and take a brief counter opportunity if it is safe. The available encounter descriptions do not verify fixed punish windows or a reliable number of hits, so avoid committing to a long attack sequence. Zanni’s area attacks and camera angles can make the fight difficult to read; spacing can help keep the next move visible.
