Registration does not guarantee an invitation or regular work. Most publisher programs recruit voluntary research participants; if you want a paid job, apply for QA openings through studio careers pages.
First, decide whether you mean research playtesting or a QA job
“Game playtester” can describe two different paths. A research participant tries in-development games, features, or services and reports their experience. A QA employee tests games as part of a job, often through a studio’s quality assurance team. Joining a participant list is not a job application: EA says its playtests are voluntary and not employment, and Activision directs jobseekers to its careers page.
If employment is your goal, look for QA or game-testing vacancies on official studio career sites. If you want to try unreleased games and provide feedback, use the participant programs below.
How to sign up and take part
- Start with official recruitment pages. Check a publisher or developer’s own playtest page, or a reputable testing panel. Examples include EA, Riot Games, Behaviour Interactive, Remedy Entertainment, Activision, WB Games, and PlaytestCloud.
- Check eligibility before applying. Age, country, and location rules differ by program and can change. For example, Behaviour lists US and Canadian residents aged 18 or older; Remedy accepts adults in selected European countries; WB Games lists several research locations. These are program-specific examples, not universal requirements.
- Fill in your profile accurately. You may be asked about your location, age, gaming habits, contact details, and availability. Studios match profiles to individual study needs. EA recommends honest answers, an up-to-date profile, and signing up only for dates you can attend.
- Complete onboarding if required. PlaytestCloud’s onboarding is unpaid and checks applicants’ commentary and device compatibility with its recording software. Passing it may make you eligible for invitations, but does not guarantee frequent tests.
- Watch the email account linked to your profile. A study may involve a screening survey, session details, or additional instructions. Respond only when the study fits your schedule and you can meet its requirements.
- Read the study agreement before accepting. Some sessions require an NDA or audio/video recording. If a term or data-use detail is unclear, ask the provider through its official channel before you agree.
- Give specific, candid feedback. Explain what you did, what happened, and what confused or worked for you. Activision asks participants to describe what they liked or did not like and why; guessing what a developer wants to hear is less useful than an honest account.
Which playtesting programs are available?
These official pages describe different formats and eligibility rules. Their details reflect pages checked on October 8, 2026; confirm the current form before applying because recruitment, locations, and study formats may change.

Do you need experience to playtest games?
Not necessarily. EA invites people with varied experience, and Remedy says casual and experienced players are welcome. Some studies need a particular kind of player, so selection depends on the study rather than on a universal experience threshold. Answer questions about your gaming habits honestly instead of trying to appear more qualified.
Do game playtesters get paid?
There is no general pay rate established for these programs, and compensation depends on the provider and the study. Riot says it provides honorariums for its playtests. Behaviour says surveys are unpaid and that longer studies may receive gift cards or other compensation at its discretion. PlaytestCloud’s onboarding is unpaid, although accepted panelists may later receive paid tests. EA describes its sessions as voluntary. None of these examples guarantees income or a particular number of invitations.

What equipment do you need?
There is no universal computer, console, headset, or microphone requirement established across these programs. PlaytestCloud checks device compatibility during onboarding, and individual remote studies may require spoken commentary or recording. Check the provider’s supported-device information and the invitation’s instructions before buying equipment; a headset with a microphone may be convenient, but it is not a stated requirement for every test.
How often will you be invited?
Joining a panel puts you in a pool; it does not guarantee selection. EA says eligible applicants may receive test applications and, if they fit a study, a survey and further instructions. Behaviour contacts people when their profile and availability match a study. PlaytestCloud says frequency varies substantially by location and is difficult to predict. Keep your profile current, but do not rely on participant invitations as steady work.

What should you know about NDAs, recording, and personal data?
Read each study’s NDA and terms before accepting. Remedy says participants must not share test or game information; PlaytestCloud says its NDA applies before each playtest and confidentiality continues afterward; WB Games also requires an NDA. Follow the agreement’s rules and do not post screenshots, recordings, or unreleased details without permission.
Programs use profile information to match participants with studies. Review the provider’s privacy terms, submit information through the official form, and use its official contact channel for deletion or opt-out requests. For EA invitations, check the sender domain against its FAQ and never provide a password or payment details in response to an email.

How to choose a program
Compare the practical terms, not just the possibility of a reward:
- Eligibility and geography: Is your age and location accepted, and can you reach an in-person lab if needed?
- Format and schedule: Is the study remote or in person, and can you attend at the required time?
- Compensation: Is the specific study voluntary, paid, or potentially compensated at the provider’s discretion?
- Participation terms: Does it require an NDA, audio/video recording, or other measurements?
- Device support: Does your current device meet the stated requirements?
These details are study-specific, so use the current official page and the invitation terms as the final guide.
