The password step is mandatory: Pocketpair states that “The AdminPassword must be set in the configuration file beforehand in order to execute the command.” There is no separate documented in-game admin menu in this workflow.

What you need before trying to become an admin
Palworld’s documented administration workflow applies to a dedicated server. You must be able to start that server and change its configuration, either on your own machine or through a managed hosting panel. A normal local, non-dedicated multiplayer session does not provide the dedicated-server configuration and authentication path described by Pocketpair.
- A running dedicated server: Pocketpair documents installation through Steam or SteamCMD, followed by launching
PalServer.exeon Windows orPalServer.shon Linux. - Configuration access: You need to set the server’s
AdminPasswordvalue before using the chat command. - A restart capability: The server must be restarted after a managed-panel change so the new value is loaded.
- In-game access to the right server: You must join the dedicated server whose configuration contains that password.
- Chat access: Press Enter after joining to open the in-game chat input.
The admin password is an authentication credential, not a second server address or a menu account. Entering it through chat grants administrative privileges on the server that accepted it.

Choose how the dedicated server is operated
Your administration steps are the same after the server is running, but the place where you set the password differs. Self-hosting gives you direct access to the files and executable. Managed hosting puts those controls behind a web panel, usually with a dedicated startup setting.

Neither option bypasses the prerequisite: the AdminPassword value must be present and loaded before the chat command can work.

Set the AdminPassword on a self-hosted server
Self-hosting follows Pocketpair’s deployment model. The exact file location can vary with your installation, so use the configuration file created by your dedicated-server installation rather than inventing a new file.

- Start it once using the documented executable. Launch
PalServer.exeon Windows orPalServer.shon Linux. This establishes the installation and its server data. - Stop the server before editing configuration. Changing a file while the process is still running can leave the active process using the previous value.
- Open the server configuration. Find the configuration file used by your dedicated-server installation and locate the
AdminPasswordsetting. - Enter the password value. Set
AdminPasswordto the password you intend to enter in game. Keep the spelling and punctuation identical; the command must contain the same value that the server loaded. - Save the file and start the server again. The setting has to be loaded during startup before authentication is attempted.
- Confirm that the server is reachable. Join the dedicated server from the game client, not a different world or another server instance running on the same machine.
Pocketpair’s requirement is specifically that the setting be configured beforehand. Starting the server, joining it and then adding the value does not make the already-running process ready for the command; apply the change and restart first.
Set the AdminPassword through a managed hosting panel
Managed providers expose the same setting without asking you to edit the file manually. The current panel workflow described for Palworld places the value in a Startup tab.
- Open the server’s control panel and select the Palworld instance you intend to administer.
- Open the Startup tab.
- Enter your chosen value in the Admin Password field. Do not put the chat command itself in this field; enter the password value only.
- Save the setting and wait for the panel to confirm that the latest value was stored.
- Restart the server from the panel.
- Wait until the restart is complete, then reconnect to that same server in Palworld.
A saved panel field is not necessarily an active server setting until the process has restarted. If you changed the field while players were connected, have everyone reconnect after the restart so you can test the new value against the newly loaded configuration.

Authenticate as an administrator in Palworld
- Join the dedicated server after its configuration or panel restart has completed.
- Press Enter to open the in-game chat.
- Type
/AdminPassword <your-password>, replacing<your-password>with the exact value configured on the server. - Send the message.
The leading slash is part of the command. Authentication is performed in the game chat on the connected server; it is not entered into the operating system terminal or the hosting panel. When the configured value is accepted, the documented workflow grants your player administrative privileges.
If the command does nothing, do not keep changing the command syntax first. Check the server-side prerequisite and restart sequence in the troubleshooting section below; those are the conditions Pocketpair and the panel workflow identify as necessary.
Palworld admin commands and what each one does
After authentication, enter commands in chat and begin each one with /. The following commands are listed by Pocketpair. Where the official list does not show an argument format, do not assume one from another game or an unofficial guide.

/ShowPlayers is especially important for moderation because the kick, ban and teleport entries require a SteamID. Run it first, identify the intended player carefully, then copy the identifier into the relevant command.
Practical admin workflows
Announce and perform planned maintenance
- Use
/Broadcastto tell players what is happening and when. - Run
/Saveso the server is saved before the maintenance stop. - Use
/Shutdown [Seconds] [MessageText]with a countdown and message when you want an orderly, announced shutdown. - Perform the maintenance only after the server has stopped, then start it again and have players reconnect.
This sequence separates a normal, announced shutdown from /DoExit, which Pocketpair lists as the force-stop command.
Identify and remove a disruptive player
- Run
/ShowPlayersand locate the player’s SteamID. - Use
/KickPlayer <SteamID>for a removal that does not impose a ban. - Use
/BanPlayer <SteamID>when the player should not be allowed to return. - Record the identifier and action in your server’s own moderation notes so another administrator knows what happened.
The last step is an operational recommendation rather than a Palworld command; it prevents administrators from guessing which similarly named player was acted on.

Move players for an event or rescue
- Run
/ShowPlayersto obtain the relevant SteamID. - Use
/TeleportToPlayer <SteamID>when you need to travel to that player. - Use
/TeleportToMe <SteamID>when you need the player brought to your location.
Check the identifier before sending the command. Both teleport commands act on a SteamID, so a mistaken identifier can affect the wrong connected player.

Work through these checks in order. They follow the documented prerequisite and the hosting-panel sequence rather than guessing at alternate command names.

A clean re-test sequence
When several variables are uncertain, use one controlled test instead of changing everything at once:

- Keep the admin password private and do not paste it into a public announcement.
- Before a planned stop, save with

/Shutdownfor routine maintenance because it supports a countdown and message. - Reserve
/DoExitfor situations where an immediate stop is necessary. - Check
/ShowPlayersbefore any command that takes a SteamID, especially bans and teleports. - After changing the password, restart first and reconnect before deciding that authentication is broken.
