To break cracked blue barriers inside an area in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, rescue four Lost Gestral children, then speak to Sastro at camp to unlock Paint Break. Face a Paint Spike and press your controller’s right-shoulder button. Blue rocks on the overworld map are a different obstacle: continue the main story until Esquie is unlocked.
First, identify which blue rocks are blocking you

If the cracked barrier is part of an explorable area, it is a Paint Spike. If it blocks travel across the world map, Paint Break is not the solution.

How to unlock Paint Break
- Visit Gestral Village. Sastro’s optional quest becomes available at camp after you have visited the village as part of the main story.
- Rescue four Lost Gestral children. Find and rescue four to meet the requirement for unlocking the ability. Guides report nine Lost Gestrals in total, so you do not need to find them all for Paint Break.
- Return to camp and speak with Sastro. He is the large Gestral wearing a chef’s hat. To find him, head from the main campfire toward the Curator’s clearing, turn left, then turn left again into a clearing with a Paint Spike.
- Try the ability on a Paint Spike. The Paint Spike beside Jar in the starting Spring Meadows area is one suggested place to test it.
How to break a Paint Spike
Stand facing the cracked blue Paint Spike and press the controller’s right-shoulder button to use Paint Break. Guides also describe the action as a melee attack against the blue rocks once the ability is unlocked. The exact control may vary with your input setup; the right-shoulder instruction applies to a controller.
What if the blue rocks are on the overworld?
Overworld rocks use a separate traversal unlock. Keep progressing through the main story until Esquie is unlocked; Paint Break from Sastro is for Paint Spikes inside areas, not these map obstacles.

What can Paint Spikes hide?
Breaking a Paint Spike may uncover an item or an optional route. Some blocked routes lead to tougher Chromatic bosses or special loot such as pictos. These are possibilities, not guaranteed contents; the available guides do not establish a complete reward list.
