Start with the character you most want to play, then choose three teammates who make that character’s damage plan reliable and comfortable. A balanced Genshin Impact team is not a rigid checklist of one damage dealer, one support, one healer, and one shielder: a character can cover several jobs, and the right lineup depends on your roster, play style, and the encounter.
1. Choose your anchor character
Pick the character you most want to use or the character you already have who can lead the team. Rarity alone does not determine the lineup. Instead, work out how the character contributes:
- On-field damage dealer: Wants time on the field to use attacks or abilities. Teammates who deal damage or apply elements while off-field can support that field time.
- Off-field damage dealer: Contributes damage or elemental application while another character is active. Build around a teammate who can make good use of that contribution.
- Support: Helps the team through functions such as buffs, enemy debuffs, elemental application, grouping, healing, or shielding. Decide which damage dealer or reaction plan that support should enable.
Some characters can fill more than one role, and a character’s role can depend on the team. Treat these labels as a way to identify what the team needs, not as fixed slots.
2. Pick a damage plan the roster can support
Choose a reaction or other coherent synergy that your available characters can actually maintain. HoYoverse’s official Genshin Impact overview says that manipulating elements is key to defeating powerful enemies and solving challenging puzzles. In practical terms, a reaction-focused team needs the characters and application patterns that let its chosen reaction happen consistently.

For physical damage, for example, the current team guide describes a Superconduct plan that depends on a physical carry and recurring Electro or Cryo application. Do not choose a reaction just because it sounds strong; check that the characters you own can enable it during the fight.
3. Fill the jobs that make the plan work
Use the remaining party slots to address what your anchor and damage plan lack. Useful jobs include:
- Off-field damage or elemental application to contribute while the on-field character acts, or to sustain the team’s chosen reaction.
- Buffs or enemy debuffs to improve the damage plan.
- Grouping when bringing enemies together benefits the encounter.
- Healing or shielding when you need more survivability or a more comfortable run.
These jobs can overlap. A lineup does not need a separate character for every item above; it needs enough support for its plan to function without making the team uncomfortably fragile.
4. Check whether the team works in your hands
A strong-looking lineup can still feel poor if its abilities do not line up or its intended rotation is difficult to execute. The Version 7.1 GameWith guide notes that some damage depends on character knowledge and player skill, so ease of execution belongs beside damage when comparing options.

A less demanding lineup may be a better fit for you than one whose performance depends on precise timing or familiarity with every character.
5. Adapt the lineup to the encounter
The best team for one situation is not automatically the best for another. Consider the enemies, the encounter’s demands, and how much comfort you want. Keep the roles and elemental application that make your chosen plan work, and adjust other slots when a different support, grouping option, healer, or shielder would help more.

6. Use current examples as comparisons, not prescriptions
GameWith’s Version 7.1 team guide, last updated October 6, 2026, highlights Stellar-Conduct and Stellar-Swirl teams, as well as Lunar reaction teams. Its examples illustrate different ways to distribute damage and support jobs:
- A Stellar-Conduct example uses two damage contributors and support slots, with alternatives for one slot.
- A Lunar-Crystallize example combines damage, support, shielding, and another support role.
- A physical Superconduct example centers on a physical carry and recurring Electro or Cryo application.
Compare any candidate team by its fit with your anchor, role coverage, reaction consistency, survivability, execution difficulty, and suitability for the encounter. These Version 7.1 examples are a dated snapshot of one guide’s recommendations, not a permanent ranking or a guarantee that a lineup suits every account. 7. Organize the roster you already have
HoYoverse’s official Version 5.2 update details say the Party Setup screen gained role and elemental-type filter tags. Those filters can help you sort available characters by two useful team-building dimensions; they do not identify the strongest team for your account.
Build from owned characters before deciding that you need to pull someone new. To turn general principles into a specific four-character recommendation, first narrow down your roster and goal:
- Which characters do you own, and which do you most want to use?
- Who is the anchor, and are you open to changing that character’s role or your preferred play style?
- Are you building for exploration, story or boss progression, or an endgame challenge?
- Which healing, shielding, grouping, and off-field options are available?
- Can the proposed team maintain its reaction or damage plan, and is its rotation comfortable for you?
Those details matter because a general guide cannot know which characters are on an individual account. Community discussions show that players often ask for roster-specific teams and returning-player guidance, but those posts are examples of questions—not evidence that a particular character performs well.
