Should I play Mafia in chronological order or release order?
Choose chronological order if you want the stories arranged by their settings; choose original release order if you would rather experience the games in the sequence they first appeared. Neither sequence is established as mandatory. The available official collection descriptions confirm that the first game is a ground-up remake and the second an HD remaster, but they do not give the original launch dates, so this guide does not assign dates or reconstruct a release-order list.
What does Mafia: Trilogy include?
2K’s May 19, 2020 announcement describes the collection as containing Mafia: Definitive Edition, Mafia II: Definitive Edition, and Mafia III: Definitive Edition. It characterizes the first as a ground-up remake, the second as an HD remaster, and the third as a re-introduction of the third game.
