1. Gather materials for the Builder’s Workbench
The Builder’s Workbench is the key early station for making structural pieces. A Prima Games guide published January 13, 2026, reports a recipe of six tree trunks and three stones. That is a dated third-party recipe, not a guaranteed current requirement; check what your game shows before collecting the exact amount.

Gather more wood and stone than the workbench recipe requires. You will also need materials for the floor, walls, entrance and roof, and crafting only the station’s minimum can leave you short midway through construction.
2. Craft the pieces for a simple shelter
Place the Builder’s Workbench and put wood or stone into its input to view the available building-material recipes. Prima Games lists options including pillars, platforms, stairs, doors, flooring and planks. Recipe availability and names may change between game updates, so use the recipes currently displayed in your workbench.

For a first build, craft only what you need for a compact, expandable enclosure: flooring, wall pieces, an entry and roofing. Leave space to place your crafting station and storage inside. There is no single required footprint or universal ideal base size; start small enough to finish with the resources you have, then add rooms or another floor as you gather more.
3. Build upward only if you can reach it
If you want a raised section or another floor, plan how you will get to it while building. Prima Games suggests placing ropes near walls as a climbing option or using staircases for a multi-floor structure. Treat these as construction suggestions, not required mechanics; choose an access method that works with the options available in your current game.

4. Choose materials and shapes from current recipes
Official Update 4 notes, published March 26, 2026, say that rock, wood and metal full blocks can be used at the Builder’s Workbench to craft half slabs and stairs. Update 6 notes, published August 2026, add that dirt blocks can be crafted into two half slabs at the workbench. The notes show that the available shapes depend on material and can evolve with updates, so confirm the recipe in game.
For wood choices, PC Gamer’s January 14, 2026 guide reports that beech or aspen logs can be processed into softwood planks and that different wood types produce different finished materials. Those examples are from a dated third-party guide; check the live recipe display before relying on a particular log-to-plank mapping.

Official Update 4 notes also say roof blocks for all build sets connect dynamically. Update 6 later fixed roof blocks placed at chunk-section boundaries so they connect and shape correctly. If a roof looks wrong, check that the pieces are placed as intended and consult the current game’s update information; the patch notes document behavior and fixes, not a guaranteed result for every placement.
